In case you have been under a rock for the last month, Big Brown is going for the Triple Crown next weekend's Belmont Stakes. Big Brown rolled to comfortable wins in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes, and will now attempt to do something in thoroughbred horse racing that has not been done since Affirmed turned the trick in 1978.
Big Brown suffered a minor crack in his left hoof after the Preakness, and some wondered if he would be ready to go in the Belmont. But he was taken out to the track earlier this week for a walk, and then progressed to a light jog. Doctors and trainers both say Big Brown looks better than ever, and he should be considered a large favorite for the Belmont. With his convincing wins in the first two legs of the Triple Crown, it would be tough to bet against Big Brown. However, he could face some stiff competition in the form of Casino Drive, a Japanese-owned horse who has won both of his career races. This battle of the undefeated horses will surely make for an exciting end to 2008's Triple Crown saga.
