NFL betting fans are stunned by the rise of the Arizona Cardinals, who are running away with the NFC West and are on their way to the playoffs for the first time since 1998. However, because of the weakness of the division, many feel the Cardinals shouldn’t be mentioned with the NFL’s elite.
They get a big chance to prove they are for real this Sunday, when Arizona hosts the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants, and Giants vs Cardinals betting gives the edge to the visitors, who have been running over teams this season.
The Giants (9-1) went headfirst with the NFL’s best run defense and smashed their way to a 30-10 romp at home over Baltimore last week, racking up 207 yards on the ground. Ahmad Bradshaw had 96 yards, including a 77-yard score, but it was Brandon Jacobs’ 73 yards and two touchdowns that powered the Giants to a 20-3 halftime lead.
The defense forced a pair of turnovers, and Aaron Ross’ 50-yard interception return for a score essentially iced the game for New York. This means Eli Manning didn’t have to do much, and he was an efficient 13-of-23 for 153 yards, one touchdown and a pick for the Giants, who are three-point favorites according to NFL football lines for this contest.
The Cardinals (7-3) held off a late-charging Seattle team for a 26-20 win on the road for their third consecutive victory, powered by 395 yards on 32-of-44 passing from Kurt Warner. Warner is considered one of the NFL MVP betting favorites to claim his third award, and this was his fourth straight game with 300 yards or more. The Cardinals also overcame three turnovers by causing four of their own, picking off Seattle pivot Matt Hasselbeck three times.
Defense is probably the biggest reason Arizona is competitive this season, as it ranks 11th in the NFL, its highest rank since 2005. Still, Giants vs Cardinals odds have the home team as the underdogs in this massive contest.
STAN’S PICK: Sports wagering books have given a three-point advantage to New York, which has won six of its last 10 meetings with Arizona, including a 42-19 thrashing in the Big Apple during the 2005 season.
This will be a clash of the NFL’s No. 2 offense (Arizona) against the No. 2 defense (New York), and the Giants’ pass rush (fourth in sacks) will look to pressure Warner as much as possible. Arizona’s run defense will try to step up and stop Jacobs and company. If it turns into Warner vs Manning, you should go with the hot, gun-slinging former MVP.
With an undefeated record at home on the line, bet on the Arizona Cardinals to prove they’re no flukes with a close win over the Giants this weekend.
