Bet on boxing: tips to get started

  • Boxing and mixed martial arts can live together
  • Two-way and three-way lines offer options
  • Choosing specific rounds yields a higher payout

Mixed martial arts have blossomed into a major sport, but that’s no reason to neglect boxing lines. Although most people seem to think boxing and MMA should step into the ring themselves, the reality is both sports help each other. Coke and Pepsi battle it out but, if everyone likes cola, it helps both products.

There’s plenty of ways to evaluate boxing odds. The general way most people get themselves into boxing betting is by simply betting on the winner of the event.

To bet on boxing, there’s a few ways to bet on the winner in most cases. The first—and simplest—way is to just bet the two-way line, which means if the boxer you bet on wins any which way (via knockout or scorecards), you collect. On a three-way line, the draw is an option along with the option of betting the two fighters.

If you want a bigger payout, you can always bet on a boxer to win in a certain manner. For example, if Mike Tyson was fighting, you’d bet on him to knock out his opponent. If Lennox Lewis was fighting, you might be inclined to bet on him to win via scoring decision.

Lastly, you can also bet on either the round in which the fight will end or you can pick which fighter will win in a specific round.

Although the general perception about boxing picks is that you can only bet on the winner of the fight, that’s not completely the case. You can also bet on the over-under.

Over-under in boxing refers to the length of the fight and how many rounds it will last. For example, if you bet the fight will go over 7.5 rounds, that means you think the fight will continue until at least the 1:30 mark of the eighth round (seven complete rounds plus half of the eighth round).

His chin may not have been strong enough to stay in the ring but his mind has kept in a number of boxing corners. Attell “The Gun” Brunn has spent years in local boxing gyms as the local Mickey Goldmill coaching up the young guns. But now The Gun has hung up the gloves and uses his craft for handicapping the sport. Thoughts or questions? Email Comments@BetOnline.com.
