As NFL football betting sharps know, the Dallas Cowboys and the Arizona Cardinals can put lots of points on the board.
After losing a high-scoring affair to the Jets, Arizona bounced back and absolutely dominated then-undefeated Buffalo last week. Kurt Warner went from looking like a bag boy at the grocery store in Week 4, to a former NFL MVP against the Bills, going 33-for-42 for 250 yards and two touchdowns.
The veteran pivot hooked up with Larry Fitzgerald on two majors, while rookie running back Tim Hightower barreled his way into the end zone twice en route to a 41-17 victory. As is becoming common for the Cardinals, the game went over the NFL betting spreads. Coming into this week, the total has gone over in six of Arizona's last seven games at home.
It wasn’t quite as pretty for the Cowboys, who were favored heavily on NFL betting lines, but struggled to take down the hapless Cincinnati Bengals. Tony Romo had a mediocre outing, throwing for just 176 yards, but connected with his receivers when it mattered, dishing out three touchdown strikes. However, one receiver, Terrell Owens was publicly unhappy about the lack of balls coming his way.
Chalk it up to an off-day for “America’s Team,” which is still the Super Bowl favorite in NFL betting odds. The Cowboys vs Cardinals line doesn’t seem wide enough for a game between the league’s most potent passing offense and a team with a secondary torn to shreds.
Both strong safety Adrian Wilson and cornerback Rod Hood are questionable for Sunday, meaning rookie Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie might have to step in for the Cardinals. This certainly wouldn’t be good news for Arizona considering the Cowboys’ many targets, and it could have a significant effect on the Cowboys vs Cardinals spread once the status of Wilson and Hood are confirmed.
On the flip side, Arizona will also be without the services of star receiver Anquan Boldin, meaning Dallas’ talented secondary will be able to team up on Fitzgerald. Those looking for a Cowboys vs Cardinals pick should know this puts further pressure on aging running back Edgerrin James, who will have to contend with DeMarcus Ware all day long.
STAN’S PICK: Cowboys vs Cardinals betting is one of the safer games of the week, and also one of the more generous NFL lines. Dallas is a stellar road team, and the Cardinals’ injuries only make the road trip easier on the visitors.
Tony Romo should have a huge bounce-back week, and Arizona’s empty secondary will likely make T.O. happy again. Bet on the Dallas Cowboys.
