No. 4 Oklahoma (5-1) was favored by most sportsbook odds to continue its recent mastery of Texas, but falling to the Longhorns dropped the Sooners from the No. 1 spot in the national rankings.
The Sooners will have the opportunity to redeem themselves when they host the No.16 Kansas Jayhawks (5-1) this Saturday, and a good beating of a fellow Big 12 rival will do a lot for the Sooners’ NCAA football odds. The Kansas vs Oklahoma line currently has the Sooners as a 19.5-point favorite at home in this massive college-football matchup.
The Jayhawks finally got a ground game to balance their attack in a 30-14 win over Colorado at home, as Jake Sharp ran for 118 yards and a pair late majors to lift Kansas to victory.
The Jayhawks are still 88th in national rushing, but with performances like this, Kansas’ powerful aerial attack can only be more threatening.
Todd Reesing was 27-of-34 for 256 yards and a touchdown, and the Jayhawks didn’t allow themselves to get beat by mistakes, committing only four penalties and no turnovers in the victory. They will be out to prove that Kansas vs Oklahoma odds are far too high in the Sooners’ favor.
The Oklahoma defense was scorched for 438 yards in a 45-35 loss to Texas in this year’s edition of the “Red River Rivalry”. It wasted a phenomenal effort by Sam Bradford, who went 28-of-39 for 387 yards, five touchdowns and a couple of picks.
Most disappointing was Oklahoma’s inability to stop the run, as Texas racked up 161 yards on the ground against an Oklahoma team that is 25th in the nation against the run. The Sooners are going to have to be much improved to validate the Kansas vs Oklahoma spread.
