PICK: LSU
The winners of the last two national championships, Florida (4-1) and LSU (4-0), are considered to be two of the top programs in all of collegiate football. College football lines expect this game to be highly competitive as the LSU vs Florida spread gives a slight upper hand to the Gators. However, LSU has been the dominant force in this rivalry as of late, and the Tigers are not afraid of “The Swamp” and its rabid fans.
The Tigers rode a balanced offense to a 34-24 win at home over Mississippi State last week, as they threw for 261 yards while adding 166 yards on the ground. Jarrett Lee had his best statistical game at the helm of the Tigers, going 18-of-27 along with a pair of touchdowns and a pick, while Charles Scott ran for 141 yards and two majors, marking his fourth straight game of 100 yards or more on the ground.
The Tigers did commit a pair of turnovers, but their defense came up with big plays at the right time to bail the offense out. The LSU vs Florida odds may look a bit strange to those in the online sportsbook industry, as this is the first time in 10 games that the Tigers have been listed as an underdog on the road.
The Gators committed 12 penalties but still racked up 514 yards en route to a 38-7 whipping of Arkansas on the road. Chris Rainey and Jeffrey Demps combined for 206 yards and three touchdowns for the Gators, which takes a lot of pressure off of Heisman candidate (and reigning Heisman recipient) Tim Tebow.
The junior pivot still performed at a high level, going 17-of-26 for 217 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. If Rainey and Demps can continue carrying the rushing attack, it will lessen Tebow’s injury chances and keep him fresh for later in the season.
The LSU vs Florida line is the lowest spread the Gators have had at home in eight outings at “The Swamp”, and Florida is 1-3 against the spread in its last four home games.
BLAKE’S PICK: LSU vs Florida betting has the Gators as a four-point favorite at home but, after losing four in a row to Florida, LSU has reeled off wins in four of its last six meetings with the Gators.
Expect your LSU vs Florida pick to go UNDER the posted total, as it has in five of their last seven meetings. Tebow gives Florida a clear edge at quarterback, but LSU’s defense is marginally better and its ground game with Scott will keep Tebow and the Florida offense on the sidelines.
In a slight upset, bet on the LSU Tigers when making your pick, as the Tigers will remain undefeated and deal a near-fatal blow to Florida’s national championship dreams.
