Missouri vs Texas odds: Mizzou searching for first win in Texas in 112 years

  • WHO: Missouri vs Texas (-6.5)
  • WHAT: NCAA football betting
  • WHEN: Saturday, October 18 at 3:30 p.m. ET
  • WHERE: Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas
  • KEY STATS: Missouri is 18-9 against the spread since 1992 as an underdog of 3.5 to 10 points; Texas is 6-0 against the spread this year
  • PICK: Missouri

The average Joe making his Missouri vs Texas pick is going to lean with the Texas Longhorns because it seemingly makes sense right now. But in college football, what happened in the previous week doesn’t often hold much weight in the following week.

Texas just disposed of Oklahoma at a neutral site while Missouri was busy losing at home to Oklahoma State. That would mean the logical side to bet on is Texas.

Texas doesn’t just have recent history (last week’s results) on its side; it also has long-term history: Missouri hasn’t won in Austin since 1896, which spans 112 years.

If you are going to bet on sports this weekend, just keep in mind Missouri played like it was looking ahead this contest against Texas. Texas wasn’t expected to be this good and, in the preseason, Missouri had eyed this contest as a potential measuring stick for how far the program has come.

Although not many people are siding with them on the Missouri vs Texas spread, a win in Austin would be huge.

While Texas has dominated this series straight up, it’s also done a good job against the spread. The Longhorns are 5-1 against the spread in their last six meetings.

Missouri vs Texas odds seem a little low when you consider how much of the perceived edge falls in Texas’ favor.

It’s hard not to like the Longhorns at this point. Their quarterback, Colt McCoy, has completed 79.4 percent of his passes this season and is now the Heisman Trophy frontrunner. Their wide receiving corps, which was supposed to be short on playmakers, are fresh off a game where Quan Cosby and Jordan Shipley combined for 20 receptions, 234 yards and a touchdown.

BLAKE’S PICK: Although Missouri is coming off an upset loss, it should be much more focused for this contest. If you are going to bet on sports this weekend, bet on Missouri to stick around within the seven-point spread.

Quarterback Chase Daniel uncharacteristically threw three interceptions last week but he’ll be much more careful with the football this weekend.

Blake walked onto his college football team and had a brief stint as an assistant coach after he graduated. He brings a sharp mind to the world of sports handicapping. Blake understands the nuances of the game that only someone who has played would understand, and he was one of the few who gave the Giants a chance against the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.
