Everyone’s favorite day of the week is Monday since we all get a chance to evaluate Monday Night Football odds, especially when sportsbook odds are scarce with few other events.

This week the Monday Night Football spread has the Redskins favored by one point over the Steelers.

Online sports betting sharps have a tough decision to make this coming Monday. The Steelers vs Redskins odds could be odds that we are evaluating late January when the two teams prepare for the Super Bowl.

The Steelers only have two losses on the season but both were to NFC East teams (Philadelphia and New York). Furthermore, the Steelers have been a team that typically beats up on weaker opponents while struggling with the big boys.

The Steelers are just 5-9 (against the spread and straight up) in their last 14 games against teams with a winning record. Meanwhile, the Redskins are 10-4 in their last 14 contests against teams above .500.

The Redskins will be shorthanded once again for this contest, although they’ve gotten used to it. Stalwart end Jason Taylor will miss Monday’s contest, as will cornerback Shawn Springs.

The key for the Redskins will be to establish the running game. Those who bet online have watched running back Clinton Portis become an NFL MVP candidate given the way he’s running the ball. He has five consecutive 120-plus yard rushing games, which is a team record.

For the Steelers—for a second week in a row—the blueprint will be to shutdown the opposing running game and force their opponent to be one-dimensional. The Steelers held the No. 1-ranked rushing offense of the New York Giants to just 83 yards on 35 carries with no touchdowns. If they can slow down Portis this week, the Steelers should have the upper hand in the game.

STAN’S PICK: Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been under duress frequently this season and online betting sharps have watched him throw an uncharacteristic amount of poor passes because of that. But the Redskins have only 10 sacks on the year, which ranks 29th in the NFL. Given those two advantages, the Steelers should be able to leave FedEx Field with a win on the Monday Night Football spread. Bet on the Steelers.

Stan Simmons first tasted football through the college game, but his football handicapping has strictly focused on the professional sport. Not many people devote as much time to the NFL as Simmons. For six days a week he works, labors and handicaps the sport, and on the seventh he rests as the games play out. Thoughts or questions? Email Comments@BetOnline.com.
