Tennis betting can be one of the most exciting opportunities offered on your online sportsbook, simply because it never ends! If the players don’t stop playing, you shouldn’t stop betting either. But before you think of diving into the world of tennis odds, understand that there’s plenty of strategy involved.
Here are some key tips that will make your 2008 tennis betting season a profitable one.
Know your surfaces. Tennis betting odds will almost always favor the higher ranked player, but the ATP and WTA’s extended clay court circuit can severely skew the rankings throughout the spring.
Players such as Guillermo Canas will see their ranking soar after making their rounds through the tournaments in Spain and Argentina, and will often be favored in matches on hard court soon after. Keep an eye on Australian Open lines this winter for tennis betting value in matches involving clay court specialists.
Similarly, monitor French Open lines for hard court specialists such as Andy Roddick, who has been a favorite on French Open odds in his early round matches at Rolland Garros his entire career, but has yet to figure the slippery surface out! On the contrary, French Open betting is the time to bet clay court specialists and, often, unknown players for a nice payout.
Know the players’ strengths. Tennis props can be a very profitable venture if you do your research. For example, big servers such as Ivo Karlovic and Sam Querrey often go to five set matchups, specifically on faster services. As long as they keep dishing out aces, their opponent cannot gain a lead—resulting in tiebreakers.
Those who took advantage of US Open odds on Sam Querrey this year while US Open betting were certainly pleased. As Querrey bombed his way through the tournament in several marathon matches, bettors would have been wise to take the over in terms of sets on US Open betting lines.
Take the easy money. It’s very uncommon to see a qualifier oust a number one or two seed at a major tournament. When Wimbledon betting, why not bet on Roger Federer during every single one of his matches? It’s unlikely you’ll lose money, so long as you’re betting small amounts. Do the same with the number two seed, as they too will encounter up to three qualifiers before they reach the Round of 16.
Wimbledon odds may make for a favorable payout, but you can slowly pad your online sportsbook account by picking an outright winner on tennis betting lines, and hedging your bets throughout the tournament.
Australian Open odds should open up within the next few months, so keep your eye on the smaller hard court tournaments leading up to it to gauge who’s hot! Keep your eyes peeled for more analysis on tennis odds and tennis betting in the coming weeks!
