NASCAR betting: Stewart, Busch solid bets at Chicagoland

  • Can Stewart repeat at Chicagoland?
  • Will Kyle Busch win yet another race?
  • Kevin Harvick aims to make it three wins at Chicagoland

This week's stop on the NASCAR Sprint Cup series is the LifeLock.com 400, to be held at Chicagoland Speedway. Most of the news online sports betting fans and their sports book have been concerned with has been Tony Stewart's move from Joe Gibbs Racing to Haas/CNC Racing as a part-owner, and with that pressure off, he has great odds for repeating at this event.

Stewart's JGR teammate, Kyle Busch, is the favorite at +600, and the No.18 driver has easily been the dominant driver in NASCAR over the first half of the season. Busch has won two of the last three races, including last week at Daytona, and his average finish of 10.0 at Chicagoland is fifth among active drivers.

Stewart is set at +800 along with Dale Earnhardt Jr., and the No.20 driver kicked off his annual summer hot streak with a win here last season. Now with his future settled, Stewart can focus on winning races, and Chicagoland would be a good spot to do so. “Smoke”, a two-time series champion, also won here in 2004 and has a solid finishing average of 11.0.

Defending series champion Jimmie Johnson is rated at +700, along with Roush-Fenway teammates Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth, and the No.48 driver was well on his way to a good finish at Daytona last week before getting caught up in a wreck. Johnson's finishing average of 9.2 at Chicagoland trails only Kevin Harvick.

Speaking of Harvick, the No.29 driver is an excellent darkhorse bet at +3000 with his finishing average of 8.0. Harvick won the first two races at Chicagoland in 2000 and 2001, and he was fourth here last year. Harvick has also just missed the top ten in four of his last five races, and appears to be on the verge of breaking through.

Harvick's Richard Childress Racing teammate, Clint Bowyer, is another solid darkhorse at +3000, and while he has only raced at Chicagoland twice, he has impressed. The No.07 driver has an average start of 22.5, but he usually works himself into the top ten with an average finish of 9.5. Look for the Jack Daniels' Chevy to make its way to the front on Saturday night under the lights at Chicagoland.

Born in the betting capital of Las Vegas, Lee-Roy has grown to appreciate the likes of IndyCar and Formula 1 racing, but his first love is the high-speed ovals of NASCAR and he is a HUGE Tony Stewart fan. When it comes to motorsports handicapping, Buckles takes the checkered flag. Thoughts or questions? Email Comments@BetOnline.com.
