Those playing this week’s IndyCar odds will return to the streets of Toronto for the Honda Indy Toronto on Sunday afternoon, as this race returns to the north after a year’s absence due to the unification of Champ Car and IRL. Will Power won here back in 2007, but it’ll be a driver who opened eyes with a surprise win last week that takes Sunday’s checkered flag.
IndyCar Odds – Sunday, July 12, 1:00 PM ET
- Briscoe is always a bridesmaid, never a bride as of late
- Track is unknown to a lot of drivers in the series
- Tracy could ride crowd support to victory, but no likely
Ryan Briscoe, who is second in the points standings, must be wondering when it’ll be his time as he finished second for the fourth time in five races, this time to Justin Wilson last week at Watkins Glen. However, there will be an element of mystery for Briscoe, and a host of other drivers, as he has never raced the streets of Toronto. Still, with his recent run, your offshore sportsbook has given Briscoe IndyCar odds of +450.
Helio Castroneves shares the status of co-favorite with Briscoe at +450, after coming in fourth at Watkins Glen. Castroneves has also never raced in Toronto, and it’s been up and down for him since his win at Indianapolis at the 500, but with his skill, you shouldn’t discount the driver who is fourth in the standings and has a win at Texas to go with his emotion Indy triumph.
Scott Dixon has IndyCar odds of +600 this week, and he came in third at the Glen. Dixon hasn’t finished lower than sixth since the second race of the season at Long Beach, and this includes a pair of wins at Milwaukee and Richmond. The points leader has a pair of top-five finishes in Toronto, but he hasn’t raced there since 2002.
Dario Franchitti stumbled to a 15th-place finish at the Glen, but that didn’t stop your sportsbook from giving him IndyCar odds of +600 this week. Franchitti, who is third in the points, has had a tough time in Toronto despite a 1999 victory: his average finish in six races is 18.2, and that win was the lone time he broke the top 10. His last trip up north came in 2002, when he finished 13th.
Justin Wilson won here as recently as 2005, and he got his first top-10 since the first race of the year at St. Petersburg with an upset win at the Glen last week. It may have been upset to some online betting players, but not to those who have been watching Wilson, who is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the best road racers in the series.
If you're looking for a risk, Canadian Paul Tracy is the one to go for with IndyCar odds of +3000. Tracy should have the crowd’s backing, having grown up in nearby Scarborough, and he won this race back in 1993 and 2003. If he can keep his famous temper in check, he could be in line for a massive betting upset this week.
LEE-ROY’S PICK: Even though Power is worth consideration for your sportsbook picks at +600, he hasn’t been behind the wheel of an IndyCar since the Brickyard, where he finished fifth. The top four drivers in the series will all be involved, but look for Justin Wilson to claim another victory. The road course through the streets of Toronto is right up his alley, and he knows the course well due to his 2005 victory. If his team gives him a good car, Wilson can drive with any one on any road course in American. Take Justin Wilson’s IndyCar betting odds this week.

Born in the betting capital of Las Vegas, Lee-Roy has grown to appreciate the likes of IndyCar and Formula 1 racing, but his first love is the high-speed ovals of NASCAR and he is a HUGE Tony Stewart fan. When it comes to motorsports handicapping, Buckles takes the checkered flag. Thoughts or questions? Email Comments@BetOnline.com.
