NASCAR Bristol Odds – Busch goes for back-to-back at Bristol

Posted by Lee-Roy Buckles on 9/1/2009 6:50:26 AM
NASCAR Bristol oddsWhile March Madness betting players are waiting for the first-round of action to wrap up, NASCAR betting fans will be enjoying some sportsbook action from Bristol Motor Speedway, site of the Food City 500. Jeff Burton is the defending champion at this event, but those who bet sports should keep an eye on another past champion who has had great success on the half-mile track in the past.

Bristol NASCAR odds: Former champ Harvick looks ready to roll

  • WHAT: The Food City 500
  • WHEN: Sunday, March 22 at 2:00 PM ET
  • WHERE: Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, TN
  • KEY STATS: Kevin Harvick’s 6.6 finishing average is the best among current racers
  • PICK: Kevin Harvick

Points-leader Jeff Gordon is one of three drivers, along with Kyle Busch and Carl Edwards, who are favored with NASCAR Bristol odds of +600. Despite never winning this race, the No. 24 driver has a respectable 11.7 finishing average in 10 races here, along with six Top-10s. Gordon has three Top-six finishes in his first four races of the year, including a pair of runner-ups. If you bet on sports, you can probably figure out it’s only a matter of time before he ends his winless streak, which is currently at 45 races.

NASCAR Bristol Odds

  • Jeff Gordon +600
  • Carl Edwards +600
  • Kyle Busch +600
  • Kurt Busch +700
  • Denny Hamlin +1000
  • Kevin Harvick +1200
  • Matt Kenseth +1200
  • Jeff Burton +1200
  • Greg Biffle +1500
  • Jimmie Johnson +1800
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. +1800
  • Tony Stewart +1800
  • Clint Bowyer +2000
  • Kasey Kahne +2000

Kurt Busch is coming off a dominating win at Atlanta and, with sports betting lines of +700, the No. 2 driver is returning to a track he’s owned for the better part of the decade. Busch has four wins in the Bristol spring race, including a three-peat between 2002 and 2004. Even though his team was junk for most of last year, Busch finished 12th here in 2008.

Kevin Harvick hasn’t won a points race since the Daytona 500 in 2007, but Bristol is as good a place as any for him to get untracked; the No. 29 driver has seven Top-10s and a victory in eight spring races here, along with a 6.6 finishing average, which is tops among active drivers. Harvick has NASCAR Bristol odds of +1200, and he finished second here to teammate Burton last year, so expect the Shell/Pennzoil Chevy to be up front at some point on Sunday.

This is always one of the most exciting races in NASCAR, even with the new repaving of the surface which makes for increased side-by-side racing. Tempers tend to flare when there is so little room on the track, so look for lots of bumpin’ and bangin’.

LEE-ROY’S PICK: The Richard Childress Racing stable tore through Bristol last year, as Burton, Harvick and Clint Bowyer finished in the top three spots, while combining to lead 115 laps. Harvick is long past due, and Bristol is the place where “Happy” will reach Victory Lane once again. Bet on Kevin Harvick for great value in your sportsbook this Sunday.

Born in the betting capital of Las Vegas, Lee-Roy has grown to appreciate the likes of IndyCar and Formula 1 racing, but his first love is the high-speed ovals of NASCAR and he is a HUGE Tony Stewart fan. When it comes to motorsports handicapping, Buckles takes the checkered flag. Thoughts or questions? Email Comments@BetOnline.com.
