NASCAR Nationwide Betting – Logano, Edwards odds favorites at Gateway
NASCAR odds - Joey Logano (+250), Carl Edwards (+350), Clint Bowyer (+450)
With the Sprint Cup series taking a week off from its regular schedule, the Nationwide series takes center stage at Gateway International Speedway, site of the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250. Reed Sorenson is the defending champion at this event, but rookie phenom Joey Logano and defending series champion Carl Edwards have been given favorite status, say the Nationwide Betting online sportsbook Odds. Gateway is a very unique track, as it is shaped differently at both ends of the track, similar to venerable Darlington Raceway.
Logano is the favorite at +250, which is somewhat surprising seeing as Logano has not been in a Nationwide car in the last three weeks, and he has never raced at Gateway. Still, with a win and three top-sixes in his first four NASCAR races, Logano is in a great position to succeed. Not to mention, he is piloting the No.20 car that has been to Victory Lane nine times with four different drivers this season (Logano, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart).
Edwards is next at +350, and he won this event in 2006. Edwards is in fourth in the Nationwide standings, but his finishing average of 3.3 at Gateway is second among active drivers, and he has finished in the top ten in all three of his races here.
Points leader Clint Bowyer has been extremely consistent this season with an amazing 17 top-tens in 20 races. He also has a 7.3 average finish at Gateway, and could be in position for a win because he can focus all of his attention on the Nationwide series this week. With NASCAR Nationwide odds of +450, the No.2 driver should be running up front for most of the race.
The darkhorse pick is Reed Sorenson at +1200, due to his success here. Sorenson has won two of the last three races at Gateway, and his average finish of 2.0 is the best among current drivers. Sorenson needs a spark to the season, and Gateway looks like the place where he could pull it off.
My betting money would go on Edwards for this race, as he has the experience to overcome Logano and the strong No.20 team. Logano could still have a great finish, but this is a rough track on first-time drivers, much like Darlington. Take the No.60 car of Edwards to head to Victory Lane.
