- WHEN: Sunday, September 21 at 2:00 PM ET

- THE PICK: Carl Edwards
It was a long race in New Hampshire last week for Kyle Busch, whose points lead evaporated with a broken swaybar early in the race. The second stop in the NASCAR Chase for the Sprint Cup takes place on Sunday at Dover International Speedway (a.k.a. The Monster Mile), site of the Camping World RV 400. NASCAR odds give the nod to Busch to recover from his horrible run, but he’ll face a familiar adversary in defending race-winner Carl Edwards.
Busch managed to nurse his No. 18 Toyota to a 34th-place finish, dropping him to eighth in the standings. But the driver who dominated NASCAR’s regular season has fared well at the concrete one-mile track in the past with five top-10s in seven races at Dover, putting up a stellar 10.3 finishing average. His NASCAR betting odds are +400.
However, Edwards is nicknamed “Concrete Carl” for good reason. The No. 99 driver’s 8.2 finishing average at Dover is tops among active racers, and he’s finished in the top-five in four of his eight races here.
Edwards was competitive last week at Bristol, finishing third to pull into a tie with Jimmie Johnson. NASCAR lines have Edwards at +500, and look for him to run up front all night at Dover.
Look out for Jimmie Johnson, who has NASCAR odds of +600 after finishing second last week. The No. 48 driver has racked up three wins at Dover, but he also has a pair of DNFs and fell from the pole last year to finish 14th. It’s either feast or famine at Dover for the No. 48 team, so be careful when NASCAR betting on their camp.
Last week’s winner, Greg Biffle, could be ready to continue his momentum as the No. 16 driver performs well at Dover. Biffle has a win and a 12.1 finishing average in 12 races here, and he has three top-fives in his last five starts. Biffle has NASCAR odds of +800, and can no longer be considered a Chase underdog.
A good darkhorse pick is Martin Truex Jr., who is getting +2500 odds in NASCAR lines. The No. 1 driver has a finishing average of 9.6 at Dover, second only to Edwards, and he claimed his first win in the Cup series here last spring. With nothing to lose, expect Truex Jr. to go all out on Sunday.
LEE-ROY’S PICK: Chase for the Sprint Cup drivers won nine of 10 Chase races last season (including four straight by Johnson), so the cream of the NASCAR crop will rise to the top.
Busch will be on a mission to make up for last week, so the No. 18 car will be the one to watch. However, the No. 99 team’s prowess on concrete surfaces can’t be denied this week. Bet on Carl Edwards to claim his seventh win of this season this weekend on the “Monster Mile”.
