NASCAR Odds - Edwards to finally get his first win of the year in Michigan

Posted by Lee-Roy Buckles on 8/25/2009 6:57:37 AM
NASCAR LifeLock 400 oddsThis week’s NASCAR odds have a trio of Roush-Fenway drivers near the top of the list for this Sunday’s LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway, which is no surprise as Ford leads with 15 overall wins on the sweeping two-mile track. After Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a Chevy took the checkered flag last year, look for a Roush-Fenway Ford in Victory Lane.
  • WHAT: The LifeLock 400
  • WHEN: Sunday, June 14, 2:00 PM ET
  • WHERE: Michigan International Speedway, Brooklyn, MI
  • KEY STATS: Carl Edwards has never finished outside the top 10 in the LifeLock 400
  • PICK: Carl Edwards

Jimmie Johnson is the sportsbook favorite with NASCAR odds of +525, but Michigan is one of seven tracks where the No.48 driver has gone winless, although he has a decent 12.0 average in seven races in the first Michigan race of the summer – and he did lead a race-high 65 laps in last year’s race before fading to sixth.

Carl Edwards is next with NASCAR odds of +600, and the No.99 driver is inching closer to his first win of the season after finishing second to Tony Stewart last week at Pocono. Edwards now has four top-sevens in a row, and he has a ridiculous 3.8 average in four LifeLock 400s with three top-fives and a win in 2007.

Greg Biffle won this race in 2005, but it’s been a see-saw season for the No.16 driver, who ran 11th at Pocono. Biffle’s 19.5 average in six LifeLock 400s is the worst among the Roush-Fenway cars, but he still has NASCAR odds of +750.

Matt Kenseth has the only victories of the season for Roush-Fenway at Daytona and California, yet he’s still behind teammates Edwards and Biffle in the standings. But the No.17 driver has NASCAR odds of +900 this week, with a 2002 victory and a solid 11.8 average in nine LifeLock 400s, which includes last year’s third-place run.

Other drivers for offshore sportsbook players to consider are Stewart at +1000, and he is coming off his first win as a driver/owner. He also won this race in 2000. Teammate Ryan Newman is listed at +1600, and he hasn’t finished lower than eighth in his last six points races. The No.39 driver took the checkered flag in this race back in 2004. Finally, Kasey Kahne is a sports wagering longshot at +1800, but he got four straight top-15s, he finished second to Earnhardt Jr. last year, and he should have the new Dodge R6 engine that took him to a season-high finish of sixth at Dover two weeks ago.

Lee-Roy’s Pick: It’s been 12 races since a Roush-Fenway Ford has been to Victory Lane, but they get up for Michigan, as the Ford headquarters are there. In this economic climate, a win would be especially big for Ford fans. That’s why Carl Edwards will finally win this week, as he has outlandish numbers at Michigan, and he would have won at Pocono if Stewart didn’t find a way to suck every last drop of gas out of his car. The No.99 team looks like it’s starting to hit his stride, and it begins at Michigan. Take Carl Edwards’ NASCAR betting odds on Sunday.

Born in the betting capital of Las Vegas, Lee-Roy has grown to appreciate the likes of IndyCar and Formula 1 racing, but his first love is the high-speed ovals of NASCAR and he is a HUGE Tony Stewart fan. When it comes to motorsports handicapping, Buckles takes the checkered flag. Thoughts or questions? Email Comments@BetOnline.com.
