Bet MLB NL Rundown – Previewing Weekend Of May 7-9
Florida are the online betting favorites in this East matchup at -125, and they have won six of their last 10 in the nation’s capital. The Marlins have been struggling with seven losses in their last 10 games, and the Nationals are a decent 9-7 at home this season, which is while we’re going with the upset for an improved Washington team.
Matchup To Watch: Anibal Sanchez vs Livan Hernandez (Sunday, 1:35 PM ET)
Bet MLB: Nationals +105
The Phillies are favored at -200 in another East series, and they recently flexed their muscles by taking three of four from St. Louis, although they got more attention for their fans running onto the field (and the emergence of a Taser). The Braves have won six of their last 10 in Philadelphia, but they’ve lost six of their last 10 overall, and the Phillies will keep rolling this weekend.
Matchup To Watch: Kevin Lowe vs Jamie Moyer (Friday, 7:05 PM ET)
Bet MLB: Phillies -200
The Cardinals are big -240 MLB betting favorites on the road, and they’ve won six of their last seven in Pittsburgh, where the Pirates are 8-4 this season. The Cardinals will want to redeem themselves after losing in Philadelphia, but the Pirates won’t make it easy on them after sweeping the Cubs at home this week. Again, we’re going with the home upset here.
Matchup To Watch: Adam Wainwright vs Paul Maholm (Sunday, 1:35 PM ET)
Bet MLB: Pirates +200
The Reds are -120 favorites at home over their Central rivals from Chicago, who can’t seem to put anything together this year and are coming off a sweep in Pittsburgh. The Reds won two of three over the Mets and have won seven of their last 10 overall, and they’ve had their way with the Cubs at home with seven wins in their last 10 meetings. The pressure continues to pile on the Cubbies.
Matchup To Watch: Ryan Dempster vs Mike Leake (Sunday, 1:10 PM ET)
Bet MLB: Reds +120
The Mets are slight -120 favorites in your sportsbook at home, where they are 11-5 on the season. The Giants have dropped seven of their last 10 in the Big Apple, but they’re coming off a sweep of Florida in their first trip to the East this season. The Mets have cooled off since a recent nine-game winning streak, but the return home should get them back on the right track after losing five of six on the road.
Matchup To Watch: Tim Lincecum vs Oliver Perez (Sunday, 1:10 PM ET)
Bet MLB: Mets -120
The Astros are -120 favorites at home, where they are only 6-13 this season. The Padres have dropped seven of their last 10 in Houston, including five in a row, but the Astros can’t seem to generate enough offense to give their pitchers a chance. We’re already expecting deadline-day offers for Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman in Houston.
Matchup To Watch: Kevin Correia vs Roy Oswalt (Sunday, 2:05 PM ET)
Bet MLB: Padres +100
The Brewers are +100 underdogs on the road in this series, but they have won seven of their last 10 in the desert. The Diamondbacks just took three of four in Houston and will be happy to be back home, while the Brewers are winding down a long road trip through the West, so fatigue may be a factor.
Matchup To Watch: Yovani Gallardo vs Edwin Jackson (Friday, 9:40 PM ET)
Bet MLB: Diamondbacks -120
The Dodgers are -140 favorites in this West matchup as they’ve beaten the Rockies in eight of their last 10 in Los Angeles. The Rockies will be wrapping up a long road trip, while the Dodgers will be bringing a homestand to its conclusion, and neither team is playing all that well lately. If the series comes down to Sunday’s finale, which we think it will, we’re taking the Rockies for the upset in our sports betting book.
Matchup To Watch: Ubaldo Jimenez vs Clayton Kershaw (Sunday, 4:10 PM ET)
