Fantasy baseball odds - Hot and Not
Fantasy baseball odds are probably a big part of your life if you like sports betting online. Most of the time, fantasy and sports betting go hand in hand, don’t they? The Betting Edge is happy to introduce a new feature – Hot and Not. Each week, we’ll profile the best ballplayers over the last seven days – including some guys who may be available on your league’s waiver wire.
Fantasy baseball odds: Hot and Not for June 17
- Albert Pujols is the man
- Callaspo showing unexpected power in Kansas City
- Kevin Millwood carrying Texas on his back
HITTERS
- Albert Pujols, first baseman, St. Louis Cardinals
(Last week: .381, 5 HR, 7 RBI, 2 SB)When you’re the best, you’re the best, whether it’s over a full season or a single week. Albert keeps mashing and he’s even kicking in steals to boot.
- Alex Rios, outfielder, Toronto Blue Jays
(Last week: .500, 2 HR, 5 RBI, 4 SB)Fantasy baseball odds are about playing the law of averages. Did you try to buy low on Rios before it was too late? He always heats up in the summer months – unlike the Blue Jays’ sportsbook hopes.
- Carlos Pena, first baseman, Tampa Bay Rays
(Last week: .391, 4 HR, 7 RBI, 10 R)The tall first baseman with a long, powerful swing usually hurts your batting average but he can’t stop smashing long balls (21 through June 16). The trip to Coors Field can’t hurt the Rays either; you may want to pounce on their sports betting lines this week.
TOP WAIVER PICK (Owned in less than 50 per cent of leagues): Alberto Callaspo, second baseman/shortstop, Kansas City Royals
(Last week: .478, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 6 R)
Who? The no-name Royals utility man is one of the few bright spots in a disappointing Kansas City season. He won’t keep up that power, but enjoy it while it lasts. Better yet – SELL!
PITCHERS
- Gil Meche, starting pitcher, Kansas City Royals
(Last week: 16 IP, 2 W, 0.00 ERA, 17 K)They don’t come hotter than Meche, the top overall fantasy player in the last week. His hot streak isn’t a total fluke, as fantasy baseball odds correct themselves and those two straight shutouts simply brought his overall season numbers back to his career averages.
- Felix Hernandez, starting pitcher, Seattle Mariners
(Last week: 16 IP, 2 W, 0.56 ERA, 11 K)King Felix is back. It’s never a question of talent – just about whether or not he can harness his stuff and stay healthy. He’ll have great runs like these but he’s also prone to ugly stretches, so beware when you play your fantasy baseball odds.
- Kevin Millwood, starting pitcher, Texas Rangers
(Last week: 14.2 IP, 2 W, 0.61 ERA, 7 K)More strikeouts would be nice, but Millwood is keeping the Rangers afloat as the team crumbles around him. He does defy the fantasy MLB odds every few years with a season like this but, after two straight years with an ERA over 5.00 in Texas, he’s bound to come back to Earth. Trade him.
TOP WAIVER PICK (Owned in less than 50 per cent of leagues): Kevin Correia, starting pitcher, San Francisco Giants
(Last week: 14 IP, 1 W, 1.93 ERA, 9 K)
It seems any Giant who takes the mound shuts down the opposition these days. Maybe Randy Johnson is teaching the kids something. Correia is nothing more than a stopgap but he qualifies at reliever in most leagues, so he’s a handy plug-and-play. He can probably help your fantasy MLB odds for another week or two before he cools off.
