MLB odds: best Interleague play picks
- Youngsters Weaver, Kershaw go head-to-head at Dodgers Stadium
- Cliff Lee hopes for run support in Cincinnati
- Josh Johnson hosts Longoria and the Rays in battle of Florida
Angels vs Dodgers odds: Jered Weaver (3-2, 2.59) vs Clayton Kershaw (2-3, 4.60)
Friday, May 22 at 10:10 p.m. ET
Two of baseball’s top young arms clash at Chavez Ravine Friday night when the Manny-less Dodgers look to stay atop the National League against the suddenly surging Angels. Weaver has been rock-solid all year long, holding opponents to a .205 average and not allowing more than four earned runs in any start. Weaver gives the Angels a chance to win every time out, so Kershaw needs to turn in a quality start of his own. He’s a special talent and has allowed one run or less in three of his last four outings. The key stat is Kershaw’s dominance at home – he has a 0.95 ERA at Dodgers Stadium. He’ll lead his team to victory in an exciting pitcher’s duel. Bet on the Dodgers.
Rays vs Marlins odds: James Shields (3-4, 3.43) vs Josh Johnson (3-1, 2.54)
Sunday, May 24 at 1:10 p.m. ET
Remember when the Marlins were 11-1? Well, as much as they’ve crashed down to Earth, Josh Johnson has remained a constant. The Marlins’ ace has allowed three earned runs or less in eight of nine starts in 2009 baseball betting. The Rays lineup is deadly, especially with Evan Longoria breaking out and Carl Crawford swiping bags like never before, but Johnson is extremely tough to beat at home. Shields’ control isn’t yet back to its usual high standard and he may take his lumps Sunday. Bet on the Marlins' sports betting odds.
Indians vs Reds odds: Cliff Lee (2-5, 2.90) vs Johnny Cueto (4-2, 2.35)
Sunday, May 24 at 1:10 p.m. ET
Imagine this: Cliff Lee is actually unlucky this season. His ERA is quietly under 3.00 yet again but the reigning Cy Young winner has gotten one run of support or less in four of his five losses. He’s in tough matched up against the electric Johnny Cueto, but the offense-inflating Great American Ballpark could give the Tribe a nice offensive push. Bet on Cleveland to pull off the upset as Cliff finally gets the support he deserves.
