Angels vs Rangers Odds - Texas pitching will delay the inevitable
You want to say the Angels vs Rangers odds mean something - that they’re part of Texas’ playoff chase - but the truth is that the Rangers are fading fast in the American League. The youth infusion bodes extremely well for MLB betting next season, but the injury bug has bitten hard of late and derailed 2009. Can the Rangers prove their doubters wrong?
Angels vs Rangers Odds: Pitching matchups favor the Rangers
- Hunter will outlast Kazmir tonight
- Hammerin’ Hank will slay Jered Weaver
- No beating John Lackey right now
Tonight, 8:05 p.m. ET
Angels vs Rangers odds: Scott Kazmir (8-8, 5.32) vs Tommy Hunter (8-3, 3.23)
The Angels got the erratic but talented Scott Kazmir for a song and they’re laughing now, aren’t they? He’s been lights out since arriving from Tampa, sporting a 1.86 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. His power lefty arsenal baffles the Rangers – he has a 2.92 ERA against them this season – so he should bring his “A” game in online betting tonight. Tommy Hunter has been a major asset for Texas, going 7-2 since the All-Star break, going deep into games and handling even the toughest of lineups. He may have the upper hand again since the Angels have never seen him before. Since Hunter will pitch more innings and make his mark for longer tonight, bet on Texas. Angels vs Rangers odds: Jered Weaver (15-6, 3.85) vs Scott Feldman (16-5, 3.65)
Jered Weaver may have gone from overrated to underrated this season. He’s a good innings eater who misses bats and doesn’t allow too many hits. He does, however, scuffle a bit against Texas. He’s homer prone and lefty power hitters like Hank Blalock have his number. Don’t be surprised if Blalock, who bats .400 with three homers in 30 at bats against Weaver, gets the start. Scott Feldman has been phenomenal at the sportsbook this season and his last start, in which the Oakland A’s drubbed him, is almost his only blip on the radar in the second half. It’s also worth noting that he didn’t walk a batter in that start; he’s still throwing strikes and should be effective against Los Angeles. Angels vs Rangers Betting Edge: Rangers

Angels vs Rangers odds: John Lackey (10-8, 3.47) vs Derek Holland (7-11, 6.01)
Is Sunday Derek Holland’s 2009 swan song? The rookie impressed in August but has stumbled badly in September, going 0-2 with a 10.64 ERA. His future is bright but he doesn’t quite seem ready for Major-League rotation duty. It’s entirely possible that Texas shuts him down for the year after Sunday’s start. John Lackey is totally back. His 6-4 record since the All-Star break is solid but the really impressive stats are his 2.29 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. Even though the Rangers have lit him up this season, I wouldn’t bet against the current incarnation of Lackey. Angels vs Rangers Betting Edge: Angels
MLB betting breakdown: Outlook and Pick
The Rangers are depleted, playing without Michael Young and Josh Hamilton, but the matchups favor them more often than not this weekend. They’ll retain a glimmer of hope in the AL West. DALE’S PICK: Rangers to win two of three.
