Athletics Mets Betting – Mets Cool Off Red-Hot Athletics In New York
Online betting players are gearing up for more interleague action on the baseball diamond, and one matchup sees a streaking Oakland team heading into New York to take on the Mets. The Athletics are coming off a sweep of their rivals from San Francisco at home, but now they go on the road, where they have been poor in 2011, and the Mets will come out on top in this series.
What: MLB Betting
When: Tuesday, June 21st-Thursday, June 23rd
Where: Citi Field, New York, NY
Pick: New York Mets
Tuesday, 7:10 PM ET – Josh Outman (2-1, 3.14) vs. Dillon Gee (7-0, 2.86)
The Mets are -140 MLB betting favorites tonight at home, and the last time that the Athletics came to Queens, New York flexed their muscles with a three-game sweep, outscoring Oakland 20-3, with two games going over the posted total. Gee has never faced the Athletics before, but the 25-year-old has been excellent this season, and he is 4-0 in seven outings (five starts) at Citi Field this season with a 1.77 ERA. Outman has never pitched against the Mets, and he is 0-1 in three road starts with a 4.60 ERA. He has been very good in his two starts in Oakland, but the 26-year-old southpaw has struggled away from home, and he’s going up against a team that leads the National League East in runs scored.
The Athletics are poor on the road as a team, going 14-24 coming into this series, and they’ll start their East Coast swing with a loss, despite carrying a five-game winning streak into Tuesday’s contest.
Betting Edge: New York Mets
Wednesday, 7:10 PM ET – Gio Gonzalez (6-5, 2.69) vs. R.A. Dickey (3-7, 4.00)
Gonzalez is coming off a 10-strikeout performance against Kansas City, but you have to watch his walks as he is second in the American League in that category, and he walked seven batters just two starts ago. He is 2-3 on the road with a 2.92 ERA in six starts, and when Gonzalez cuts down on his walks, the 25-year-old is going to get some attention from the big spenders of the major leagues. Dickey, who is 11 years older than Gonzalez, was tagged for six runs in his last start in Atlanta, and he is your typical knuckleballer: some days he has it, some days he doesn’t, and you’ll likely find out early in the outing if he is going to last. He hasn’t had much success against the Athletics in his career, going 1-4 in 11 outings (seven starts) with a 6.49 ERA.
Dickey is far too inconsistent to place a wager on, especially against an up-and-comer like Gonzalez, and even an anemic offense like Oakland’s should be able to track Dickey’s knuckleballer quickly.
Betting Edge: Oakland Athletics
Thursday, 1:10 PM ET – Graham Godfrey (1-0, 4.76) vs. Chris Capuano (5-7, 4.29)
Godfrey is making the third start of his career, and MLB betting players watched him get his first win against San Francisco, allowing a run on six hits over seven innings, and that was a vast improvement from his debut, when he was pounded for five runs in 4.1 innings, but he took a no-decision. That was on the road, so the 26-year-old righthander has to learn how to pitch away from home in the big leagues. Capuano has allowed two runs or less in four of his last five starts, and he comes into this game with a 2-4 record in seven home starts with an ERA of 4.60.
Godfrey will have the first day start of his MLB career, while the 32-year-old lefty is 2-1 in five day games (three starts) this year with a 4.82 ERA, and this looks like it’s going to be a high-scoring game, given Godfrey’s inexperience and Capuano’s poor splits. However, Capuano has been pitching better as of late and reportedly got help from the legendary Sandy Koufax in his delivery, and he is getting more comfortable with the tips he received from the Hall of Famer. The edge goes to the Mets at home in your sports betting picks.
