Braves Mariners Betting – Pennant Contenders Clash in the Great Northwest
The betting surprises keep coming this season as MLB baseball betting pennant races are starting to include some unfamiliar names. While the sportsbook promo experts are not surprised to see the Atlanta Braves contending for the NL East pennant, the charge being made by the Seattle Mariners in the AL West is quite a shock. The Mariners trail the first-place Texas Rangers by only one and a half games, but the Mariners seem to be running into problems with interleague play. Seattle is 4-5 in June in interleague games which is not a pace that will catch the Rangers.

This game looks to be an interesting pitching duel between two pitchers still trying to find their way this season. For the Braves, Brandon Beachy takes the mound with a 2-1 record and a 3.22 ERA. Beachy has been injured much of this season, but he is looking strong with the limited starts he has had since his return. The Mariners put Erik Bedard on the mound for this game. Bedard’s 4-5 record is deceiving as his 2.93 ERA is more indicative of his abilities. The Mariners just cannot score runs for Bedard, and Beachy is not going to make the prospects of run support any easier for the Mariners.

Tommy Hanson is one of the best pitchers on the Braves’ starting rotation, but he may be ripe for the picking in the game for the Mariners. In his last 10 starts, Hanson is 7-1 with a 2.02 ERA. But he is still feeling the effects of a sore throwing arm that will affect him in the damp Seattle air. Rookie sensation Michael Pineda starts for the Mariners, and he is going to be a big reason why the Mariners win this game. Pineda is 7-4 this season, but the truly amazing stat is his 2.45 ERA. He can throw heat and he has excellent control. Pineda’s last two starts have been interleague games against the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals. In those games, he gave up only one earned run total and six hits in 13 innings pitched.

The Mariners are the beneficiaries of bad Atlanta luck in this series. Derek Lowe takes the hill for Atlanta in this game. That would normally be a good thing for Atlanta, but Lowe is 1-4 in his last five decisions and is not getting any help from his offense at all. Lowe does have a 4-2 career record against the Mariners, but his recent problems could affect the outcome of this game. The “King” Felix Hernandez takes the mound in this game for the Mariners. Hernandez is 8-6 this season, but his career record in interleague starts is 12-5. He has never faced the Braves before, but Hernandez should be able to handle the Atlanta hitters.
