National League Series Betting Pick:
Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets - Friday, June 3 - 7:10 PM ET
The first third of the 2011 Major League Baseball season has come and gone. Now, as the month of June arrives, the community of MLB baseball betting experts need to begin to make some evaluations. Were April and May just teases, mere shadows that trick the mind and lead to inaccurate analyses as summer nears? Or, were the first two months of the season legitimate indicators of what is to come for the rest of 2011? These are the kinds of questions that sports betting gurus know well. With all that in mind, what is going to be the answer when Atlanta and the New York Mets get together for a three-game weekend set in the Empire State? Let’s start with the first game of this series on Friday night. Derek Lowe will go for the Braves and lug a 4.03 earned-run average to the ballpark, while Jonathon Niese carries a 3.92 mark into this game for the Mets. Which pitcher is more likely to win this game? It’s not an easy call. Lowe has been more consistent over a greater number of years, but he’s been really ragged his past two outings, giving up five walks each time. Lowe is not dialed in, so that’s probably enough to give the Mets the advantage in game one.
Atlanta New York Mets Betting Pick: New York MetsAtlanta Braves @ New York Mets - Saturday, June 4 - 7:10 PM ET
All informed sports bet on this game isn’t so hard to make. Why? One reason – Jair Jurrjens. The Atlanta starter on Saturday night is toting a very light and snappy 1.51 earned-run average into Citi Field. Jurrjens has been a beast this year, stepping up to become the ace of the Atlanta staff and a legitimate National League Cy Young Award contender. Jurrjens doesn’t have one bad outing to his credit this season – he’s been relentlessly consistent for new manager Fredi Gonzalez. Opposing Jurrjens is Dillon Gee, who owns a very respectable 3.83 earned-run average in his not-very-extensive career, but let’s not kid ourselves. Jurrjens is a big dog, and he shows no signs of being unable to contain the Mets’ bats on Saturday. Take Atlanta in game two of the three-game weekender.

Atlanta Braves @ New York Mets - Sunday, June 5 - 8:05 PM ET
The third and final installment of this series comes on Sunday night, as Tim Hudson goes for the Braves while R.A. Dickey takes the bump for manager Terry Collins and the Mets. Hudson has a 3.75 earned-run average this season, while Dickey’s earned-run average stands at 4.50. Neither man has been terribly consistent this year, but one thing worth noting is that Dickey has allowed at least eight hits in five separate games this season. He can be attacked more regularly than Hudson, who can get more swinging strikeouts. Pick Atlanta for this reason.
