Cubs vs Rockies Odds - Cubs are back
When you hear the term Cubs vs Rockies odds, you may not feel the same excitement as you do when someone brings up the Red Sox and Yankees. However, if you overlook the Cubs/Rockies series this weekend, you’ll miss out on an exciting betting matchup with major NL playoff implications. Can the Cubbies pull away in the Central?
Cubs vs Rockies odds: Rotation depth will propel Cubs past Rockies
- Zambrano, Jimenez should both be stingy on Friday
- Last year was clearly a fluke for Ryan Dempster
- The Rockies shouldn’t let Jason Hammel pitch at Coors
Friday, August 7, 9:10 p.m. ET
Carlos Zambrano (7-4, 3.35) vs Ubaldo Jimenez (8-9, 3.76)
Expect fireworks to open the Cubs vs Rockies odds with each team sending its flamethrowing ace to the hill Friday night. Carlos Zambrano enters his worst month historically – he’s just 12-16 in August with a 4.20 ERA – but he’s pitched reasonably well at Coors Field in his career, sporting a 4.12 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over three starts. He hasn’t allowed a homer at Coors and may be more likely to hit one than allow one, as he has 19 career homers.
Jimenez is living proof that you can survive calling Coors your home, as he’s allowed just three long balls there in 2009 MLB betting. However, he’s never beaten the Cubs in his career.
Bet under the total, as both pitchers keep the ball in the park with their nasty stuff, but go with Zambrano’s superior track record.
MLB betting pick: Cubs

Ryan Dempster (5-5, 4.09) vs Jason Marquis (12-7, 3.49)
2008’s brilliance seems a distant memory for Dempster, and you probably want to avoid his Cubs vs Rockies odds at your offshore sportsbook. He’s been poor since the All-Star break and has a disgusting 15.23 ERA in 13 career innings at Coors Field. As lucky as Jason Marquis seems to be, he’s actually 8-3 with a 3.39 ERA and just three homers allowed in 90 innings at Coors all-time. Few pitchers have been more successful there. Go with the Rockies.
MLB betting pick: Rockies
Sunday, August 9, 3:10 p.m. ET
Randy Wells (8-4, 2.73) vs Jason Hammel (6-6, 4.62)
Has there been a more underrated pitcher than Randy Wells this season? He churns out one quality start after another and has won eight of his last nine decisions, getting the job done with solid control. He’s been at his best on the road, sporting a 4-1 record and 2.42 ERA.
Wells’ opponent, Jason Hammel, hasn’t faced the Cubs, so we don’t have a great sample of his success against their lineup. However, we do know he’s terrible at Coors, with a 7.20 ERA in nine starts there, so that’s reason enough to avoid his Cubs vs Rockies odds like the plague.
MLB betting pick: Cubs
