Diamondbacks Tigers Betting – Tigers, Diamondbacks Look To Make Their Moves As Interleague Play Continues This Weekend
As the midway mark of the MLB betting season approaches, there is one team from each league that appears to be on the verge of finally breaking through and taking over as a division leader. In the American League Central, the Detroit Tigers have clawed their way back into the division race and are now within reach of taking over sole possession of first place ahead of the struggling Cleveland Indians while in the National League West, it’s the Arizona Diamondbacks in hot pursuit of the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants. Those teams will clash this weekend with a three-game set in the Motor City as interleague play continues.

The Diamondbacks have managed to hover around the .500 mark on the road this season but will be in tough against one of the best home teams in baseball. Detroit is 22-14 at Comerica Park, and will return home looking to improve that mark and catch up to the free-falling Indians. Tigers’ starter Phil Coke has struggled so far this season with a 1-7 record, but his 3.95 ERA isn’t awful and he has shown flashes of his potential at points in 2011. If Coke can put together a solid effort on Friday, then the Detroit offense should be able to do enough to get him the victory over Arizona starter Zach Duke.

The visiting team will be hoping for a little luck on Saturday when they send 25-year old Josh Collmenter to the mound to take on Tigers’ ace Justin Verlander. Collmenter has dropped his last two decisions but has looked good at times this season, although his 2.09 ERA isn’t an accurate read because he spent time in the Arizona bullpen earlier in the online sports betting season. Verlander on the other hand has been one of the best arms in baseball through the first three months, and has allowed just four earned runs through his past five starts to bring his ERA down to 2.54. The 28-year old is one of the biggest reasons that Detroit is contending for a division title, and he will look to push them one game closer by earning his 10th win of 2011.

A Sunday afternoon matinee will represent the Diamondbacks’ best chance to get a win in this series, as they send Joe Saunders to the mound to take on Brad Penny in perhaps their most favorable pitching matchup. That isn’t saying much but Penny has allowed 22 runs in his past six starts and could have a tough time against an Arizona team that is desperate to avoid the sweep and lose any more ground behind the Giants in the NL West. Saunders hasn’t been awful of late, and should be able to do enough to get the job sports betting bonus done.
