Marlins Cubs Betting – Marlins Try To Maintain Momentum After All-Star Break
The Florida Marlins largely impressed the sports betting public when the MLB season began. But as the season wore on, the Marlins started to fall out of favor with the baseball betting public as they dropped in the standings to the very bottom of the NL East. But a sportsbook promo run of wins prior to the all-star break has the Marlins rolling into Chicago with a chance to catch fire in the second half of the season and maybe move back up in the NL East standings. The Cubs just seem lost lately and may be setting themselves up for a bad second-half of the 2011 season.

Florida gets this series off to a good start by putting their best pitcher on the mound in Anibal Sanchez. Sanchez is 6-2 on the season with a 3.58 ERA, and he is 3-1 in his last 10 starts. That stretch includes a May 26 win over the San Francisco Giants where Sanchez went nine innings and allowed no earned runs on five hits. Matt Garza takes the mound in this game, and he has struggled with a 3-4 record in his last 10 starts. His last outing was against Washington where he gave up six runs on eight hits in only two innings.

The Cubs are overmatched in the pitching department in this game as well. Ricky Nolasco starts for the Marlins, and he has only given up two earned runs in his last three starts. In that stretch, he has pitched into the ninth inning twice. Ryan Dempster takes the mound for the Cubs with a 6-6 record and 5.01 ERA. He has had a pretty decent run in his last 10 games, but he is averaging six hits given up per game in that stretch. That may be all of the advantage that Florida needs behind Nolasco.

Saturday, 1:05 PM ETThe Cubs would be in a good position to win this game with Carlos Zambrano pitching, but Zambrano is just coming off the injured list with a bad back and he may be rushing things a little. Zambrano has been good at home this year posting a 3.83 ERA, but he was shaky in his rehab start in Class A ball last week. The Marlins are decent at making contact and getting on base, and that could be a problem for the recovering Zambrano.

Cubs pitcher Randy Wells is more talented than his 1-3 record would indicate. Wells will be looking to make a fresh start of this season in his first game after the all-star break. This will be the game that the Cubs can win, so long as the Cubs’ bats do not decide to take a day off as has happened in the past.
