Marlins Phillies Betting – Florida Tries To Make Up Ground Versus Phils
The Florida Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies live on different sides of the train tracks in the National League East Division. They’ll lock horns next week in Philadelphia.
National League Series Betting Pick:
Florida Marlins @ Philadelphia Phillies - Tuesday, June 14 - 7:05 PM ET
The legions of MLB baseball betting pundits who monitor the National League East are all too aware of the ways in which the Florida Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies are unlike each other. Fans don’t show up in Miami, but they come out in droves in Philly. Miami is still playing in an old and antiquated stadium not tailored to baseball. The Phillies, after playing for three decades in the soulless Veterans Stadium, have built a new ballpark and are thriving as a result of the revenue streams that Citizens Bank Ballpark created for the franchise. Florida lacks a credible bullpen, while the Phils are strong in the back end of their pen. Miami has a relatively punchless lineup, and while Philadelphia’s lineup has suffered as a result of the loss of Jayson Werth, the Phillies will still be tough to handle in October. Whereas the Marlins held a fire sale after their last world championship in 2003, the Phillies have generally retained their top-end talent and have become a consistent powerhouse in the National League East. Philadelphia, like Florida, has struggled at the plate for the balance of this season, but the Phils – due to their overwhelming pitching depth – have still been able to be the pace-setters in the N.L. East. A team with Roy Oswalt and Cliff Lee and Roy Halladay and Cole Hamels is simply going to be a bear for any opponent on a day-in, day-out basis. That’s the cold, hard truth of the matter. The ranks of sports betting gurus who monitor the National League with an eagle eye every year are aware of Philadelphia’s superiority in this matchup. The Marlins can be pesky at times, but these National League East foes usually part ways before the regular season winds its way to a conclusion. When Florida travels to Citizens Bank Park in the City of Brotherly Love, the Phillies have to like their chances. Hamels, the Phils’ starter in this game, has a 2.58 earned-run average. That’s a terrific mark, and it’s over three full runs better than Florida starter Chris Volstad, who has been unable to give up fewer than three runs in almost each and every one of his starts this season. Hamels has been consistently excellent, while Volstad has been consistently mediocre. That’s a reflection of these two franchises over the past half-decade. Take Philadelphia in game one because of a plainly lopsided pitching matchup.
Florida Philadelphia Betting Pick: Philadelphia
Florida Marlins @ Philadelphia Phillies - Wednesday, June 15 - 1:05 PM ET
A wise sports bet on this game has to be reserved until the starters are officially announced, but in looking at the rotations for these teams, the likely pitching matchup will pit Florida’s Anibal Sanchez against Philly’s fifth starter, Kyle Kendrick. Sanchez’s earned-run average is just under three (2.97), while Kendrick’s mark sits at 3.78. If there’s a game the underdog Marlins should grab in this series, Wednesday afternoon’s encounter is it.
Florida Philadelphia Betting Pick: Florida
Florida Marlins @ Philadelphia Phillies - Thursday, June 8 - 1:05 PM ET
The third and final installment of this series is also a matinee. Given that the likely pitchers are Javier Vazquez (6.50 ERA) for Florida and Roy Halladay (2.56 ERA) for Philadelphia, a decision should not be hard to reach. Take one of the three best pitchers in the game (alongside Lee and Tim Lincecum) over the profoundly struggling Vazquez.
