Phillies Cardinals Betting - Phillies, Cardinals Clash In Three Game Set This Week
After completing another interleague series this past weekend, a couple of the top teams in the National League will clash with more than bragging rights on the line in a three-game set that begins on Tuesday. The Philadelphia Phillies have won eight of their past 10 games to establish a five-game lead over the Atlanta Braves for top spot in the NL East, while the St. Louis Cardinals aren’t nearly as comfortable in an MLB betting tie with the Milwaukee Brewers for first in the NL Central.

For as good as 27-year old Kyle McClellan has been for the Cardinals this season, he will need to be even better if he is going to get the decision in his next start. St. Louis will turn to the right-hander to have one of his best performances of the season in order to keep them in it against reigning Cy Young award winner Roy Halladay and the Phillies, and all bets are off when it comes to how he will do. McClellan has allowed 10 runs combined in his past two starts, although the three he allowed in a loss to the Washington Nationals in his last appearance was much better than the seven he allowed in a loss to the San Francisco Giants. Halladay has struggled with his consistency over the past couple of weeks, so look for him to bounce back with one of his trademark performances in a possible playoff preview.

The Phillies spent the offseason improving an already deep pitching staff, and that depth will shine through with Cliff Lee getting the call against Kyle Lohse. While the Cardinals’ starter has a solid 2.88 ERA, he has given up four runs in each of his last three starts and hasn’t won a game since late May. That is better than his counterpart’s 3.12 mark, but considering Lee has not allowed an earned run in nay of his past three starts, the online sports betting edge goes to Philadelphia once again.

For as inconsistent as Chris Carpenter has been this season, he has still been better than his 1-7 record indicates and this may be the game that he finally gets his due. A three-game home sweep at the hands of a potential playoff rival would not only drop the Cardinals further back of Milwaukee for top spot in the division, it would also hurt the team’s postseason outlook going forward. Philadelphia’s Roy Oswalt has allowed 11 earned runs in his past three starts, and this may be the game that St. Louis’ offensive frustrations finally materialize into production and they get some runs in order to avoid the embarrassment of a sports betting bonus sweep.
