Rangers Tigers Betting – Tigers are Looking to Win in the First Home Series of the Season
The dynamics of March Madness betting are in many ways similar to the kinds of principles that go into a baseball game’s given online betting strategy. Find out this Monday afternoon.
American League Game Preview For Next Week:
Texas Rangers @ Detroit Tigers – Monday, April 11 – 1:05 PM ETThe community of baseball betting experts knows that, much like the NCAA Tournament, the calculus of the given situation is fragile and temporary. The key is to try to discern who is going to be better on the given day, not so much over the course of a seven-game series in October or a week-long run of regular-season play. Just as it’s really difficult to pin down one NCAA Tournament game with particular exactitude, it’s also daunting to dare to say what’s going to happen in one baseball game. The ranks of sports betting gurus know this. So, what should be said when appraising the Monday afternoon game between the Texas Rangers and the Detroit Tigers from Comerica Park in Detroit?
As is the case with almost all baseball matchups, the biggest thing to look at is the pitching matchup. Since one should base the Monday pitching probables on the Wednesday pitching matchups of the previous week, it’s highly likely that C.J. Wilson will take the bump for Texas while Justin Verlander will go to the mound for Detroit. Over the course of the season, Texas is likely to have more weapons and more depth than Detroit. The Tigers are weak in the lower end of their starting rotation and do not have quality hitters in the lower third of their order. Texas has better bats and, even without Cliff Lee – now a Philadelphia Phillie – will be able to throw a young and maturing pitching staff at the rest of the American League. In August and September, expect Texas to have a better chance of winning a division championship.
However, on this specific day, one should go with Detroit in the Tigers’ first homestand of the year. Verlander is the first, last and only reason – but a very good one – to tab manager Jim Leyland’s club to beat Ron Washington’s defending American League champions.
Verlander possesses electric stuff. His fastball is one of the very best in the American League, and he gets nasty bite on his pitches to keep hitters swiping at the ball with uncertainty and, in general, futility. On a deeper level, the reality that should make Verlander and – by extension – the Tigers an attractive choice in this contest is that Verlander will be making his third start of the season. The month of April, coming on the heels of spring training, regularly incorporates rust into the equation for elite starting pitchers. Verlander was spotty in his debut outing against the New York Yankees on March 31; he struggled to locate his pitches, but then again, he was pitching in Yankee Stadium against a great lineup. Now that Verlander has two starts under his belt (the second one this past Wednesday against Baltimore), he should begin to hit his stride, and that spells bad news for Texas in the Rangers’ first road trip of 2011.
Pick: Detroit
