Red Sox Phillies Betting – Red Sox And Phillies Both Aim To Maintain Their Leads
The Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies are both leading their Eastern Divisions in the American and National Leagues. They’ll do battle next week in Philadelphia.
Interleague Series Betting Pick:
Boston Red Sox @ Philadelphia Phillies - Tuesday, June 28 - 7:05 PM ET
The community of MLB baseball betting pundits is salivating in advance of this pre-Independence Day series matching teams from cities that have a strong connection to America’s early years. The environment will be festive and the electricity should be considerable when the A.L. East-leading Boston Red Sox visit the N.L. East-leading Philadelphia Phillies. If you’re looking to make a wise sports betting play when Boston travels to Citizens Bank Park in the City of Brotherly Love, you should definitely expect the Phillies to win the series. It all starts with Tuesday’s matchup in part one of this three-game set. Cliff Lee, the Phils’ starter in this game, has a 2.87 earned-run average. What’s particularly impressive about Lee, one of the elite pitchers in the sport, is that he has just thrown back-to-back complete-game shutouts, an almost unheard-of accomplishment in this day and age, which have elevated the specialist reliever to new places of prominence. Complete games are rare enough; complete-game shutouts are even harder to find. Lee is operating at the peak of his powers, and that should be enough to pick the Phillies in game one. Just to put a finer point on things, though, Lee will be facing Boston starter Andrew Miller, whose earned-run average is 4.76. There is a chance at press time that Miller will be an emergency starter for teammate Josh Beckett (who is battling illness) on Saturday. At any rate, though, Boston’s starting rotation is not settled at the moment. Take Philadelphia in game one because its pitching is in decidedly better shape, and because Lee is unhittable at the moment.
Boston Philadelphia Betting Pick: Philadelphia
Boston Red Sox @ Philadelphia Phillies - Wednesday, June 29 - 7:05 PM ET
A sensible sports bet on this game has to go with the Phillies, and it really isn’t all that close. Boston starter John Lackey’s earned-run average is 7.36, while Philly starter Roy Oswalt’s earned-run average is just about four full runs lower, at 3.38. If Miller versus Lee on Tuesday feels like a good bet, Lackey versus Oswalt is just as good a proposition for the serious MLB betting player.
Boston Philadelphia Betting Pick: Philadelphia
Boston Red Sox @ Philadelphia Phillies - Thursday, June 30 - 1:05 PM ET
The Red Sox could avoid a sweep and leave the state of Pennsylvania with a win by taking the Thursday matinee. The probable pitchers are Jon Lester (3.70 ERA) for Boston and Vance Worley (3.41 ERA) for Philadelphia, although there’s a chance that the Phils could go with Cole Hamels, he of the 2.51 earned-run average. First of all, Worley is the probable starter for Philadelphia, and a 3.41 earned-run average, while solid, is not really all that much better than a 3.70 ERA for an American League pitcher such as Lester. This is obviously true because American League pitchers deal with designated hitters on a regular basis. Lester will be playing with National League rules in this game, giving him more free outs. Boston should be able to exploit Worley and dig up enough runs to prevail.
