Tigers vs Twins Odds - Twins will complete the comeback

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 10/5/2009 2:01:30 PM
MLB oddsThe Twins vs Tigers odds for the entire 2009 MLB betting season come down to one game. The winner books its ticket to Yankee Stadium for the American League Division Series. The loser goes home until 2010. Can the Tigers halt their slide with a road upset?

Tigers vs Twins odds: Extremely tough matchup for rookie Porcello and the Tigers

  • WHAT: MLB betting
  • WHEN: Tuesday, October 6, 5:07 p.m. ET
  • WHERE: Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN
  • KEY STAT: Minnesota starter Scott Baker is 8-2 with a 3.21 ERA since the All-Star break
  • PICK: Twins

Tigers vs Twins odds pitching matchup: Rick Porcello (14-9, 4.04) vs Scott Baker (15-9, 4.36)
This online sports betting matchup is tough to call with each team sending a solid young hurler to the hill. We’ll start by breaking down Rick Porcello. After a bumpy midseason, the rookie found his groove in August and September, going 5-2 and posting a sub-3.30 ERA in each month. As for his track record against Minnesota, there’s plenty to like and dislike. He posted a 3.09 ERA over four starts but may have had luck on his side. He walked seven Twins in 23.1 innings and allowed homers to Justin Morneau and Michael Cuddyer.

Another red flag for Porcello is his road play. He was 8-3 at home this year but went 6-6 on the road, including 0-2 with a 6.30 ERA at the Metrodome. It’s risky to bet on a rookie in a big game at a park where he struggles.

Scott Baker, an outstanding control pitcher, doesn’t have a good record against the Tigers this season at first glance: 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA. But those stats don’t reflect how he’s pitching right now. Baker went 8-2 with a 3.21 WRA after the All-Star break. He also shut the Tigers out for five innings last week. He’s a more polished pitcher than Porcello and thus could have an advantage.

DALE’S PICK: Whereas the Tigers scratched and clawed to hold their lead down the stretch, the Twins surged. They’re getting offensive contributions from more than just Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer – Jason Kubel lead the team with 106 RBI and Michael Cuddyer drove in 94 of his own. They’ll have the crowd behind them and they even have the bullpen advantage with Joe Nathan at closer. All signs point to a Twins win. Bet on Minnesota.
