Yankees Blue Jays Betting – Yankees Look To Close In On Red Sox With Four Games In Toronto
The New York Yankees headed into the All Star break with the best run differential in the majors at plus-121, but learned very quickly that will not guarantee MLB betting success in one of the toughest divisions in baseball. The Yankees will open the second half of the season looking up at the American League East-leading Boston Red Sox, looking to close the one-game gap with a strong start against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays north of the border.

The Yankees are banking on that their a couple of key starting pitchers can repeat their improbable first half statistics in Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia, who will take the mound against Toronto on Thursday and Friday respectively. Expectations were low for both before the season got underway, and both have surprised to fill out the rotation in New York. Colon had not allowed a run in three of his final five starts before the break to get his ERA down to 3.20, and will look for another clean sheet against Jo-Jo Reyes, who could find out in a hurry that this is not the Cleveland Indians’ offense he is pitching against.

For as good as Colon has been this sports betting year, Garcia has been even better and should benefit from the rest he got over the break after allowing just three earned runs over his last three starts. The 35-year old has shown strong command and not tried to do too much, which he won’t have to as long as he avoids Jose Bautista in the heart of a Blue Jays’ order that lacks depth.

As of press time the Blue Jays had still not announced who will start on the weekend, but it is likely that Ricky Romero will get the call against CC Sabathia on Saturday. Romero has handled the pressure of being Toronto’s No. 1 well in just his sophomore season, but he is still not ready to handle a battle against the Yankees’ ace, especially with such a powerful lineup backing him up with Mark Teixeira and Curtis Granderson continuing their pursuit of Jose Bautista for the sports betting bonus home run-lead.

After entering the break on the heels of three-straight wins, the Blue Jays will try to avoid getting back from it with four-straight losses in front of a home crowd that will be desperate to see a win. New York will give Phil Hughes his second start back from an injury that cost him most of the first half of the season, and while he looked good in his return against the Indians he may struggle against a Toronto team that will throw everything at him to avoid a sweep at home.
