Red Sox vs Yankees odds – Rivals clash in the Big Apple
It’s always an occasion when Red Sox vs Yankees odds are available for sportsbook action, and the American League East rivals square off for a two-game set at Yankee Stadium.
The second game on Tuesday night is our focus right now, as it features a slumping pitcher looking to get his groove back, and a young up-and-comer who was brilliant in his last outing. Let's see what the odds look like for this matchup:
Red Sox vs Yankees odds – Tuesday, May 5, 7:05 PM ET
- Josh Beckett not looking so hot in the odds
- Yankees have already proved themselves against the Sox this season
- Boston coming off a rough series on the road
Josh Beckett (2-2, 7.22) was rocked in a 13-0 humiliation in Tampa Bay, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in just 4.2 innings of work. In his last two starts, the 28-year-old righthander has given up 15 runs on 20 hits – including three homers along with 11 strikeouts and seven walks. Beckett has struggled mightily with his control this season, as he is eighth in strikeouts but third in walks. One of those poor two starts came against the Yankees at home, when he was tagged for eight runs on 10 hits in five innings, but took a no-decision in a 16-11 shootout win for the Red Sox.
Joba Chamberlain (1-0, 3.13) earned his first win of 2009 after three consecutive no-decisions, as he held Detroit to a run on three hits over seven strong innings in an 8-6 victory on the road. The 23-year-old showed why he is thought of so highly in the Yankee organization, and after stumbling a bit while going between the rotation and bullpen last year, Chamberlain looks to be set in the rotation now, but he does walk too many batters from time to time. He faced the Red Sox last week, allowing a pair of runs (one earned) on nine hits over 5.1 innings in a no-decision of a 5-4 win.
Baseball odds should favor the home team, but the Red Sox have fared well in their last 10 trips to the Bronx, taking five wins. Boston is coming off a rough series with Tampa Bay in which they lost three of four, while New York won two of three in Los Angeles against the Angels before Sunday’s finale was postponed, meaning they’ll be a bit fresher than the traveling Red Sox. Beckett has lost both of his starts on the road this year with an ERA of 9.28, and he’s lost the swagger of 2007 when he won the ALCS MVP award en route to a World Series win. Meanwhile, Chamberlain doesn’t mind pitching against the Red Sox, and he’d love to make up for a poor showing in his only home start so far this year when he was roughed up by Cleveland. Take the Yankees odds on Tuesday.
