Texas Rangers odds – more of the same from Texas in 2009

Posted by Dale "Skip" Lalonde on 8/26/2009 7:17:20 AM
Texas Rangers oddsIt’s the same old story with Texas Rangers odds this year. If you’ve ever bet the Texas Rangers' sports betting lines, you won’t find things to be much different in 2009. The team will bang out a ton of runs and suffer through some generally bad pitching. It all adds up to what will probably be another mediocre to subpar season for the Rangers, though they’ll certainly still carry some entertainment value.

Texas Rangers odds: +6000 to win the World Series

  • Starting rotation simply isn’t playoff caliber
  • Besides Francisco, bullpen is very average
  • Lineup packs an explosive punch

Rangers odds will once again be dependent on an all-hitting, no-pitching ball club in 2009, which likely means another season without the playoffs. In a sport where “pitching wins championships” is the mantra, Texas Rangers betting fans watch their team perennially tries to do things its own way—which has resulted in zero first-place finishes since 1999.

The Rangers will head into the season with a starting rotation that includes Kevin Millwood, Vicente Padilla, Brandon McCarthy, Kris Benson and Matt Harrison, which doesn’t exactly strike fear into the hearts of opponents. None of these pitchers would be in the top two for any postseason contender.

With subpar starting, anyone who wants to bet on the Texas the Rangers will have to heavily count on a bullpen to come through. That’s bad news, as it’s another group of mediocre suspects. While Frank Francisco – otherwise known as the pitcher who once threw a chair at a fan – has been dominant since taking over the closing role, the rest of the bullpen is a group of so-so hurlers. C.J. Wilson, Eddie Guardado and Scott Feldman won’t be mixed up for Mariano Rivera, Jonathan Papelbon and Joe Nathan.

The sportsbook have set a low regular season win total for the Rangers because they know that, without the pitching, it’s unlikely this team will finish above .500.

Once again, Rangers odds will be dependent on a batting lineup that will be forced to carry the team. With one of the best units in the league, though, putting up runs shouldn’t be a problem.

Ian Kinsler, Michael Young and Josh Hamilton are All-Star caliber players while Hank Blalock and Andruw Jones have been at that level before. The Rangers are also counting on a number of young prospects to contribute, such as Nelson Cruz, David Murphy and Chris Davis. If all goes well, the Rangers will have a very potent batting order from one through nine.

The bottom line for Rangers odds this season is that they don’t have much hope in finishing as an American League playoff team. Without reliable pitching, Texas Rangers odds for a World Series remain long at best.
