MLB Betting – Top 5 MLB Superstars The Will Get Traded
Online betting players should have a close eye on contracts during the 2010 MLB season, as there are a number of names who could be up for grabs if their teams don’t sign them to a new contract. Here’s a look at just a few of the names that could cause a stir before the trade deadline hits. We heard about the insane Albert Pujols-for-Ryan Howard trade rumors, and that could very well be the beginning of a crazy season.
Derek Jeter, New York Yankees
It’s weird to even think of Jeter in another uniform, and the captain is a pretty solid bet to end his career in the Bronx, but the Yankees could get a taste of their medicine, meaning that other teams may try to step in and woo Jeter, who batted .334 with 18 homers and 66 RBIs, and he had his fourth 30-steal season. The Yankees also have a policy of not discussing extensions during the season, which Jeter says he’s fine with, but that won’t stop the questions.
Victor Martinez/Jason Varitek, Boston
One of these catchers may have to be moved, and it’s increasingly looking like Varitek, who is now 37 years old, while Martinez is 31 and a much better hitter. Of course, you may not find a catcher in the game who handles pitchers like Varitek, who has caught four no-hitters in his career. He could be a steal for a team down the stretch who are looking to get the best of their pitching staff, and his experience could definitely aid a team’s sportsbook odds in the postseason.
Josh Beckett, Boston
Beckett will also be watching the above scenario as he has pitched to Varitek since coming into the league, and the Red Sox are working hard to get a deal done before next Sunday’s opener against the Yankees. After injuries set him back in 2008, Beckett came back last year with a 17-6 record and a career-high 199 strikeouts. Beckett is competing with Seattle’s Cliff Lee for No.1 status on this year’s list of free-agent pitchers, so if the Red Sox can’t get a deal done with Beckett, will they chase the former Cy Young winner?
Lance Berkman, Houston
Berkman has a player option and he’s spent his entire career in Houston, so it may take a lot to get him to budge. Berkman hit .274 last season with 25 homers and 80 RBIs, but he’s starting the season on the disabled list with a knee injury, and at 34 years old, age is starting to be a factor. He should attract some interest as a left-handed power hitter, especially in the American League where he could be used as a designated hitter, which would be a boost to a team’s MLB betting odds.
Jayson Werth, Philadelphia
Sports betting players watched Werth explode last year for 36 homers and 91 RBIs, and he even hit a decent .268 at the plate. But Werth is now 30, turning 31 in May, and he probably has just enough time for one more big contract. The Phillies will have to decide if they’ll pick up Jimmie Rollins’ option, they just gave Roy Halladay $60 million, and Ryan Howard is a free agent in 2011, so it’ll be interesting to see just how willing Philadelphia is to spend the money to keep up.
