Yankees odds – New York opens wallet, new stadium in 2009
After a season of change, fans of Yankees odds can still count on one thing: New York spending cash, and lots of it. The Yanks missed the postseason last year, and it seems as though management won’t stand for that again. The team has poured piles of money into a new stadium, lineup and rotation. Not only is New York a good bet to make the playoffs, but a good bet to win MLB odds.
Sports betting - Yankees lines – Teixeira, Sabathia highlight impressive free agent haul
- Opening with World Series odds of +300
- Lineup is stacked, though A-Rod out a month
- Free agents Sabathia and Burnett bring 35 wins
If you bet on the Yankees, expect to see a lot of runs—A LOT of runs. Slugging first baseman Mark Teixiera comes aboard from the Angels, bringing a .308 average and 33 homers. He and Alex Rodriguez will form an absolutely terrifying combo in the middle of the lineup, although A-Rod is due to miss the first month of the season after getting some work done on his hip. That said, the Bronx Bombers will still mash with a lineup that includes Xavier Nady, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posoda, Robinson Cano and Jonny Damon. If you’re Yankees betting this year, be sure to take the over.
Even if the lineup takes its time coming out of the gate, Yankees odds will be carried by the newly reformed pitching staff. C.C. Sabathia and A.J. Burnett were signed via free agency, and they combined for a whopping 35 wins last season. Burnett is prone to injuries and it’s no surprise he performed well in a contract year, but New York can still rely on Chien-Ming Wang, Andy Pettitte and Joba Chamberlain. Having future Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera closing games certainly doesn’t hurt Yankees lines, either.
There will be plenty of pressure on the Yankees this season, as their +300 sportsbook World Series odds indicate, especially with a new stadium to be christened. With all the new names in the fold, anything short of a postseason appearance would be disastrous, and even that might not be enough to satisfy ownership. Considering the pieces New York has added, though, it’s hard to imagine it not making a lot of noise on Yankees lines.
