Yankees vs Red Sox Odds - Red Sox will take over first place from the Yankees
When it comes to MLB betting rivalries, it really doesn’t get any bigger than the New York Yankees against the Boston Red Sox. The two square off on Tuesday in the first of a three-game set at Fenway Park with first place in the American League on the line, and sportsbook odds should favor the Red Sox at home, where they’ve beaten the Yankees in four consecutive games.

A.J. Burnett (4-2, 4.69) vs Josh Beckett (6-2, 4.09)
These former Florida Marlins from the 2003 World Series team (although Burnett didn’t play due to Tommy John surgery, while Beckett was the Series MVP) were both shelled in a 16-11 Red Sox win, giving up eight runs apiece. Burnett has been his usual inconsistent self while Beckett is hitting his groove, allowing three runs or less in each of his last six starts. However, Burnett is still solid at Fenway despite getting roughed up back in April with a 3-0 mark in four starts in Boston. Beckett is 8-4 in 14 starts against the Yankees in the Yankees vs Red Sox odds series, and he looks to be finding the form that made him one of the best pitchers in baseball in 2007.
MLB betting pick: Red Sox

Chien-Ming Wang (0-3, 14.46) vs Tim Wakefield (7-3, 4.50)
Between injury and control problems, it’s been a rough 2009 so far for Wang, who is 3-3 in seven career starts at Fenway with a 5.11 ERA. After a couple of good bullpen outings, Wang gave up five runs in 4.2 innings of an 8-6 win over the Rangers. Wakefield had a pair of bad starts against the Mets and Blue Jays before earning his seventh win of the year against the Tigers. In 49 appearances (32 starts) against the Yankees, Wakefield has a 10-17 record with an ERA of 5.03. However, with a perfect record of 4-0 at home so far this year, you have to take Wakefield while betting online over the struggling Wang, who may never be the same again.
MLB betting pick: Red Sox

C.C. Sabathia (5-3, 3.56) vs Brad Penny (5-2, 5.85)
Sabathia gave up more than one homer for the first time all year in a 9-7 loss to Tampa Bay, and he also allowed five runs, his highest total since the end of April. He’s made three starts at Fenway in his career, going 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA. Penny also gave up five runs in his last start, a 5-1 loss to Texas, but he’s won his last two meetings with the Yankees, which came as a Marlin in the 2003 World Series. Still, there’s been trade rumors swirling around Penny lately, and that could cause a distraction and affect the sports betting odds for this contest, while Sabathia will be hyped for his introduction to the Yankees vs Red Sox odds series.
MLB betting pick: Yankees
