Yankees vs Blue Jays odds - Toronto's real season starts now
The Jays have defied baseball betting odds for 34 games, jumping out to an American-League-best 22-12 record. However, they know, just as every baseball betting fan knows, that they haven’t proven anything until they match up with the “big three” juggernauts sharing the AL East with them: Boston, New York and Tampa. The real season starts Tuesday night as the Yankees visit the Rogers Centre for the first of many 2009 meetings.
Yankees vs Blue Jays odds: Perfect opportunity for Yanks to turn season around
- Doc Halladay will teach A.J. Burnett a lesson
- Young Blue Jay arms haven’t faced bats like these
- Mariano Rivera not himself in baseball betting this season
Tuesday, May 12, 7:07 p.m. ET: A.J. Burnett (2-0, 5.26) vs Roy Halladay (6-1, 3.29)
Here’s the sportsbook matchup Jays fans have been waiting for. Burnett, who opted out of his Toronto contract to grab big bucks in New York, faces his former team for the first time since departing. Expect the boo birds to make lots of noise in what should be a pitcher’s duel. Burnett may not be fazed by the hostile crowd; he’s comfortable at the Rogers Centre, sporting a 22-8 lifetime record, and his success against the Red Sox suggests he relishes big-pressure matchups. Not be outdone, though, is Roy Halladay. The dominant hurler elevates his game every time he faces the Bronx Bombers, sporting a 15-5 record and 2.86 lifetime ERA against them. Both pitchers should bring their best stuff to the mound in the series opener but Doc simply won’t let his team lose Tuesday. Bet on the Blue Jays to win an emotional affair.
Wednesday, May 13, 7:07 p.m. ET: Andy Pettitte (2-1, 4.38) vs Scott Richmond (4-1, 3.29)
Rookie hosts veteran in Game 2 of the Yankees vs Blue Jays odds. MLB lines should favor the Yankees odds since Pettitte is 12-5 at the Rogers Centre, but he’s not totally invincible against the Jays odds, as Vernon Wells’ .429 average against the big lefty suggests. Does the fresh-faced Richmond have a chance? Maybe. He’s never faced the Yankees in his career and will need his control to be “on” to have a shot, but the Yanks’ lack of experience against him could give the Jays odds an advantage. The X-factor in this matchup: Mariano Rivera. He’s not himself this season, serving up homers like never before in his amazing career, and he could struggle in the clutch this week. Bet on the Blue Jays to win again.
Thursday, May 14, 7:07 p.m. ET: C.C. Sabathia (2-3, 3.93) vs Brian Tallet (2-1, 4.95)
The MLB odds fun ends here for Jays fans. Sabathia found himself in his last outing, tossing a complete-game shutout against the sneakily powerful Orioles, and he always pitches will against the Jays. Brian Tallet has been an adequate innings eater for the Jays in 2009 MLB betting but he’s not ready for the Yankees. The only really powerful lineup he’s faced this season was the White Sox, and they torched him for 10 earned runs in four innings. Avoid Tallet and the Jays like the plague on Thursday and pick the Yankees.
