ACC Tournament odds – North Carolina in the driver’s seat

Posted by Washington Tucker on 9/1/2009 7:34:14 AM
ACC tournament oddsMarch Madness odds will be up this coming Sunday, better known as Selection Sunday, but before we get to the final field of 64, we have to narrow it down. The picture is fairly clear, but conference tournaments begin this week, which means we’ll have some bubble movement happening over the next few days.

ACC tournament odds: its North Carolina’s to lose

  • Duke will be in the mix again
  • McClinton could lead Miami on a run
  • FSU, Clemson and Wake Forest also Top-25 teams

The sportsbook lines for ACC Tournament betting clearly favor the North Carolina Tar Heels to win it and, if the odds hold up, we could see a Tobacco Road rematch of this past Sunday.

The Duke Blue Devils are next in line according to the ACC Tournament odds, and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if they were the last team standing alongside North Carolina. But there are few other teams in the ACC that will have something to say, even though they aren’t heavy favorites on the ACC Tournament lines.

Who would be surprised if the Miami Hurricanes rode Jack McClinton all the way to the finals? And who would be surprised if Florida State, Clemson or Wake Forest, who are all among the Top 25, made a big impact?

Of the aforementioned teams, the Miami Hurricanes are the ones with the most work to do if they plan to attend the NCAA Tournament.

There are four games that kickoff the ACC Tournament betting on Thursday and below is the full schedule for the tournament:

ACC Tournament – Georgia Dome Atlanta, Georgia

FIRST ROUND – Thursday, March 12
Game 1: No. 8 Virginia Tech vs. No. 9 Miami, noon
Game 2: No. 5 Clemson vs. No. 12 Georgia Tech, 2:30 p.m.
Game 3: No. 7 Maryland vs. No. 10 NC State, ESPN2, 7 p.m.
Game 4: No. 6 Boston College vs. No. 11 Virginia, 9:30 p.m.

QUARTERFINALS – Friday, March 13
Game 5: No. 1 North Carolina vs. Game 1 winner, ESPN2, noon
Game 6: No. 4 Florida State vs. Game 2 winner, ESPN2, 2:30 p.m.
Game 7: No. 2 Wake Forest vs. Game 3 winner, ESPN2, 7 p.m.
Game 8: No. 3 Duke vs. Game 4 winner, ESPN2, 9:30 p.m.

SEMIFINALS – Saturday, March 14
Game 9: Game 5 winner vs. Game 6 winner, ESPN, 1:30 p.m.
Game 10: Game 7 winner vs. Game 8 winner, ESPN, 4 p.m.

CHAMPIONSHIP – Sunday, March 15
Game 11: Game 9 winner vs. Game 10 winner, ESPN, 1 p.m.

The ACC Tournament lines set up a fairly easy path for the Tar Heels to get to the finals. The Tar Heels will play the winner of the Miami-Virginia Tech game, which should result in a win for UNC either way, and then UNC will faceoff with either Clemson or Florida State, which isn’t such a tall order either; North Carolina if 5-0 against those teams this season and should pad its record in the ACC Tournament.

WASINGTON’S PICK: The Tar Heels have put their losses behind them and are now fully focused. Their eye is on the prize and nobody is going to slow them down in the ACC Tournament. Bet on North Carolina.
