Michigan State vs UConn odds – MSU has crowd support against Huskies
Final Four odds are here, and they lead into Detroit, Michigan with Michigan State vs UConn odds. The tip-off game on Saturday night features a pair of programs with great pedigrees.
Since 1999, Michigan State and Connecticut have combined for three national titles and eight Final Fours. Sportsbook odds are favoring the Huskies in this contest, but the Spartans will have a whole state behind them.
Michigan State vs UConn odds: MSU essentially playing at home
- WHO: Michigan State Spartans vs UConn Huskies (-4)
- WHAT: Final Four odds
- WHEN: Saturday, April 4, 6:07 PM ET
- WHERE: Ford Field in Detroit, MI
- KEY STATS: These two have eight combined Final Four appearances since 1999
- PICK: Michigan State
The Spartans stifled the top overall seed in the Tournament with a stingy defense as Michigan State dropped Louisville 64-52 to win the Midwest region. The Spartans held the Cardinals to 38.3 percent from the floor and outrebounded them 35-27. Goran Suton continued his strong play in the post with a 19-point, 10-rebound performance, and he was even 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. The senior center could be playing the best basketball of his career right now, and he may have played himself into the first round of the NBA draft. Being a Final Four odds underdog shouldn’t bother the Spartans: Michigan State is 3-1 this year when the opposition is favored.
The Huskies used a massive size-advantage to sink Missouri in the West region final, beating the Tigers 82-75. UConn outrebounded the smaller Tigers 45-26, led by Hasheem Thabeet’s 13 boards, and the Huskies also managed seven blocks. Thabeet, who is second in the country in blocks, had none as the Tigers tried to avoid him, but Stanley Robinson had four and Jeff Adrien added three for UConn. For the second straight game, one of the Huskies’ secondary players stepped up, and this time it was freshman guard Kemba Walker, who dropped a game-high 23 points off the bench.
Final Four odds have made the Huskies a four-point favorite, and these two prestigious programs split a pair of meetings in 1998 and 2000, with the home team winning by an average of 16.5 points each time. This is essentially a home game for the Spartans, as their campus is located in East Lansing, 75 miles away from Detroit, and eight of their players are from Michigan. The Spartans will be physical with the Huskies, and the battle of the boards will be especially fun to watch, as Michigan State leads the nation in rebounding while UConn is third.
WASHINGTON’S PICK: The Spartans have the size to deal with Thabeet and the rest of the UConn post players, and they’ll have a rabid crowd behind them to make up the difference. With Michigan State vs UConn odds, bet on the Spartans for a March Madness betting upset on Saturday.
