NBA betting: Mavs, Spurs in action

  • Mavericks look to continue dominance over Knicks
  • Clippers try to avoid tenth straight loss to Spurs

A pair of teams that rarely get any basketball betting love from your online betting sportsbook will be the focus of Thursday’s night NBA betting action. The New York Knicks will head to Dallas for a meeting with the Mavericks, while the Los Angeles Clippers also travel to Texas to face the San Antonio Spurs.

Heading into Wednesday’s games, the Knicks were the highest-scoring team in the Eastern Conference under Mike D’Antoni’s run-and-gun system. Problem is, they are also last in the East in points allowed, which has caused them to drop eight of their last 10.

The Mavericks have won seven of their last 10, and they should be NBA betting favorites at home against the Knicks, who have only a single win in their last 10 games against Dallas. These two have already met once this season, with the Mavericks winning 124-114 in overtime in New York on November 16 behind Dirk Nowitzki’s 39 points.

Clippers vs Spurs odds: Thursday, January 8 at 8:30 p.m. ET

The Clippers have dropped nine in a row to the Spurs, and they should be NBA betting underdogs on the road on Thursday. San Antonio won 86-83 in Los Angeles on November 17 on a late three-pointer from Roger Mason, who led the Spurs with 21 points on the night.

The fact that the Clippers, who were at full strength and at home, couldn’t beat the Spurs without Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, shows the huge gulf in coaching class; Gregg Popovich is annually a Coach of the Year nominee, while fans have been screaming for Mike Dunleavy to lose his job.
