NBA betting - Red-hot Jazz will ground the Rockets
In NBA betting, we’ve officially hit the home stretch. March is the time of year when the contenders separate themselves from the pretenders in the standings and teams from both sides of the spectrum are in action Wednesday night. Deron Williams’ Jazz, the hottest team in NBA betting right now, host Yao Ming and the Rockets, who are also sizzling. Meanwhile, the Mavericks and Spurs resume their Texas rivalry.
NBA betting: rounding into playoff form
- Jazz and Rockets a combined 17-3 in their last 20
- Rockets vs Jazz odds: Williams is a man possessed right now
- Spurs vs Mavericks odds: Jason Terry back in action
Rockets vs Jazz odds: Wednesday, March 4 at 9:00 p.m. ET
Houston and Utah are a combined 17-3 in their last 20 games, but something has to give in the Rockets vs Jazz odds come Wednesday. Considering their home dominance this season, the Jazz look like the better offshore sportsbook pick.
The main reason the Jazz went 10-1 in February (and have won 11 of 12 overall): Deron Williams. Perhaps tired of not being mentioned in the same breath as Chris Paul and the NBA’s best point guards, he’s carried Utah – not to mention any online betting fan who smartly picked the Jazz in February – on his back in the New Year. How good has he been? Try these February numbers on for size: 23.2 points, 10.9 assists and 51.2 per cent shooting. He also dropped 30 or more points in five straight games. No wonder he’s finally raising eyebrows in NBA betting circles.
Obviously, the Rockets are no slouches. They’ve won eight of nine and knocked off Portland and mighty Cleveland last month. Yao Ming has been remarkably consistent this season – a huge plus with Tracy McGrady shut down. Consequently, the Rockets have been consistently solid, if not great, sportsbook picks this season. The red flag, however, is their 14-16 road record. They’ll be playing the second of back-to-backs and face a raucous crowd in Utah, so they won’t upset the Jazz. Bet on Utah.
Spurs vs Mavericks odds: Wednesday, March 4 at 9:00 pm. ET
At first glance, things are looking up in Dallas. The Mavs are 10-5 in their last 15, they’re back in the Western playoff hunt (holding the eighth spot through Monday’s games) and Jason Terry is back from a broken hand. Now they have a chance to seriously energize their playoff hopes at home to the rival Spurs. It’s a great time for NBA betting fans to hop back on the Mavs bandwagon, right?
Wrong, wrong, wrong. Looking at Dallas’ recent success, its wins have come against Toronto, Oklahoma City, Milwaukee, Sacramento and New Jersey – not exactly a who’s who of great NBA betting teams. The Mavs have wilted against top competition all year and recently fell to Utah, Boston, Houston and – gasp! – the San Antonio Spurs.
The Spurs are one of the NBA’s best road teams and have adjusted without the injured Manu Ginobili, playing shutdown defense. Bet on the Spurs to calmly dispatch the pretender Mavericks yet again.
