Detroit Pistons Odds - BetOnline.com’s Detroit Pistons Preview
The Detroit Pistons odds for the NBA Championship are fairly long. While the city was tightening up their belts, their basketball team was one of the few companies that opened up their checkbooks. The Pistons signed free agents Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva and Chris Wilcox. Online betting fans should see the Pistons improve on last year’s sluggish performance, but this team isn’t good enough to win a round in the playoffs.

Detroit Pistons odds maker breakdown: STARTING FIVE
The Pistons starting five will be the same as it was last year, but the team is counting on some growth. Rodney Stuckey will again start at the point guard and the team wants to see a more consistent effort in his second year as a full-time starter. The core around him has a couple of familiar faces with Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince, but two others are new in the front court. Charlie Villanueva will start at power forward and Ben Wallace is back as the team’s starting center. Villanueva doesn’t have to be “the guy,” so the thought of him scoring in bunches might work out.
Detroit Pistons odds maker breakdown: BENCH
NBA betting fans will see Ben Gordon headline the bench group, and he should give the team the most explosive scoring reserve they’ve had in a long time. Combined with some growth from backup point guard Will Bynum, the Pistons should have plenty of backcourt points from their bench. In the front court, the Pistons have Jason Maxiell, Chris Wilcox and Kwame Brown, which is a big mixed bag of rebounding, toughness and a bit of scoring.
Detroit Pistons odds maker breakdown: OFFENSE
When the Pistons were a juggernaut in the Eastern Conference, they were a balanced team. Now it seems like the balance has shifted to the backcourt. The Pistons have one of the best guard rotations in the league with Rip Hamilton, Ben Gordon, Will Bynum and Rodney Stuckey, but those guys seem to duplicate the same roles. Look for them to score points in bunches from the backcourt but the frontcourt may not have the same punch.
Detroit Pistons odds maker breakdown: DEFENSE
Sportsbook odds makers were surprised to see that Ben Wallace was back starting for the Pistons, which may be a sign that the team is thin at the position. Even so, the Pistons still know the team defense concept and should be decent on this end of the court.
Detroit Pistons odds maker breakdown: COACHING
John Kuester takes over the coaching duties and the book is still very open on him. Michael Curry did not work out last year and we’ll see what Kuester can do with a talented roster. He is unproven.
Detroit Pistons odds maker breakdown: SEASON OUTLOOK
The Pistons have a very big mixed bag, but not enough talent to really do any damage. Their backcourt will carry them but they have too many parts that duplicate each other. Players like Rip Hamilton and Ben Gordon, Rodney Stuckey and Will Bynum, Kwame Brown and Chris Wilcox and even Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye are all very similar. The Pistons don’t have the balance they used to have, which likely means another playoff berth and another first-round playoff exit.
