Lakers Clippers Betting - Battle of Los Angeles
The video, ‘Battle of Los Angeles’ surrounds a plot that in 1942 U.S. forces engaged a flying object over L.A. and nearly 70 years later, the aliens are back but the reality of the current ‘Battle’ is the match-up of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers.
Let’s try to take the emotion out of it for on-line sport betting enthusiasts and look for the against the spread records a little later but first, the history.
Both teams play in the Stables Center in downtown and the Clips have been the ugly stepbrother forever but that changed and may have changed forever when they got Chris Paul through a trade and on an assist from Commish David Stern.
The Clippers were dealt a severe blow on Monday when legend Chauncey Billups was lost for the season with injury and they will need to dig deep to replace that glue guy but they are young, talented, and hungry and they can jump out of the gym.
Billups was instrumental in the Clippers signing Kenyon Martin recently and they would have been quite a re-united tandem but with Paul at the help, the Clips will still bring the swagger.
These squads squared off for the first time this year on January 14 and things favored the Clips that night as far as the schedule is concerned.
They had 48 hours off to bask in the glory of upsetting the high-octane Miami Heat while they caught the Lakers in the second of a back-to-back and in the 4th game in 5 nights.
The result shows that the Clippers came out firing taking a 55 to 42 lead into the locker room and then also won the last quarter by 4 for an 8-point win despite 42 from Kobe.
In the last match-up on January 25 the Clips again had not played in 2 days but the Lakers were in the same boat.
This time, the Lakers were pumped. Paul was held to 4 points. Billups was one for 8 from the field. Five Lakers scored in double figures and Pau Gasol had a double/double.
If this was not a true rivalry before that game, it sure is now. The January 25 game was a war. Metta World Peace did not give peace a chance as he was all over Blake Griffin but what happened at the end of the game will have a carry-over effect.
With the game in hand, Gasol was fouled and Paul tried to grab the ball away. They started to trash talk and as they were walking down the floor to the free-throw line, Gasol put his hand on Paul’s head like you would do to your little child.
Paul went berserk and Kobe, who was right behind, just got a big kick out of it.
As far as the numbers are concerned, the edge now and probably all season will go to the Clips.
The Lakers started the season 11-14 against the spread and were a dismal 3-9 away from home. The Clippers were on top of the Pacific Division after 22 games with a 15-7 straight up record and a 13-9 slate as far as the cover is concerned.
Since the Lakers are such a glamour team and popular in spots like the Vegas sportsbooks, they will continue to get over bet while the Clips, despite injury, will sneak up on some teams.
