New York Knicks Odds - Knicks looking forward to 2010 offseason, not 2009 season
The New York Knicks odds this season are similar to last year, and not many people are showing much faith the Knickerbockers. While the brains of the program, General Manager Donnie Walsh and head coach Mike D’Antoni, have improved the state of the franchise, online betting fans should know that this team has a number of expiring contracts and is still looking forward to making a big splash in the big 2010 free agent market.
New York Knicks odds: +25000 to win NBA Championship

New York Knicks odds maker breakdown: STARTING FIVE
The Knicks’ starting five is fairly bare bones, but with D’Antoni’s system, they will put up points. The starting five includes Chris Duhon, Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, Al Harrington and David Lee. It doesn’t look like much, but this team can score pretty much at will – it’s just the defensive end that’s the problem.
New York Knicks odds maker breakdown: BENCH
NBA betting fans were happy to see Nate Robinson return to New York, and he’ll lead the reserves. The Slam Dunk champion is a good fit for this season and he’ll be the main bench guy, as Jared Jeffries, Darko Millicic and Toney Douglas are the other main options. Keep an eye on Douglas, who has impressed early in as a rookie. Larry Hughes is a good scorer off the bench as well.
New York Knicks odds maker breakdown: OFFENSE
The Knicks are going to be among the best offenses in the NBA more so because of the system than the players. While D’Antoni trumpets the fact that the team was 14-14 in the games that Gallinari played, the truth is that this team just isn’t good enough to compete on a serious level. The offensive production is good, but it’s at the sacrifice of the defense.
New York Knicks odds maker breakdown: DEFENSE
Sportsbook odds makers know that the Knicks – and any of D’Antoni’s teams – don’t play defense. The Knicks can fill up the basket at will, but on defense, they simply don’t have it. When teams slow the game down and pound it inside, the Knicks are undersized and undermanned. The only times they will win this year is if they can outrun their opponents.
New York Knicks odds maker breakdown: COACHING
The jury is still out on D’Antoni, who is an entertaining coach but not one that has produced Championships. Defense seems to be the key in the NBA, but D’Antoni is doing things his way. It won’t work this year but we’ll see if it works long term.
New York Knicks odds maker breakdown: SEASON OUTLOOK
GM Donnie Walsh’s pre-planned efforts are to make a big splash in the 2010 free agency period. That kind of puts the 2009-10 season in the lame duck category, even as positive as the brass is about this team. With expiring contracts everywhere, the Knicks will make moves to free up even more cap space for the offseason, leaving this team shorthanded. They’ll win about 34 or 35 games, just like they did last year.
