Duke vs Maryland Betting Odds – Vazquez lights up Blue Devils in final home game
NCAA Basketball Odds: Pick Maryland |
Online betting players in the know are well aware of important Greivis Vazquez is to Maryland, and the senior has lifted the Terrapins near the top of the ACC. The Terrapins can win a piece of conference title, but they’ll have to go through Duke to do so, and the Blue Devils put a beating on them last month. After a career performance in his last game, Vazquez won’t let Duke do the same thing again.

The Storyline: Duke vs Maryland Betting Odds
The No.4 Blue Devils (25-4, 12-2) have won nine in a row with a 67-49 romp at Virginia, and they can clinch at least a share of their first regular-season ACC title since 2006. The No.22 Terrapins (21-7, 11-3) are looking to do the same after a 104-100 double-overtime win at Virginia Tech, and they haven’t won the ACC crown since 2002, when they won the NCAA Tournament.
Offensive Matchups: Duke vs Maryland Betting Odds
Everyone waits for Duke’s offense to stumble as they’re essentially a perimeter-shooting team, led by Jon Scheyer and Kyle Singler. Nolan Smith looks to get to the hoop more often than those two, but the duo of Scheyer and Singler are the keys to the Blue Devils’ NCAA chances. Duke passes the ball around without turning it over, they’re surprisingly good on the offensive glass despite their size, and they’re excellent from the foul line. But will an inability to score down low catch up with them?
In Greivis Vazquez, the Terrapins have one of the most versatile players in the country, and he lost his mind at Virginia Tech with a career-high 41 points. Vazquez runs the Terrapins from the point-forward position, and he allows guards Eric Hayes and Sean Mosley to run off the ball. The Terrapins are efficient and don’t turn it over much, but we’d like to see them shoot more three-pointers, because they shoot a high percentage.

Defensive Matchups: Duke vs Maryland Betting Odds
Only one of the Blue Devils’ last six opponents have scored more than 60 points, and Duke really gets after it defensively, ranking first in three-point defense, and they get more blocks than a team their size probably should. Watch out for Miles Plumlee, a sophomore forward, who will be huge for the Blue Devils down the stretch.
The Terrapins can get sucked into shootouts easier than the Blue Devils, but they don’t make it easy on their opponents, coming in 11th in field-goal defense. The most intriguing spot comes at forward, where it appears Maryland has a ready-made replacement for Landon Milbourne, a senior, in freshman Jordan Williams. If Maryland could be more disciplined on defense, they would be a definite threat for the NCAA title.

Coaching Matchup: Duke vs Maryland Betting Odds
Mike Krzyzewski always makes Duke a favorite in your sportsboook, and he has this year’s team playing with a toughness many thought they couldn’t have. Everyone knows their role at Duke, and Krzyzewski runs his program with an iron-fist. Simply put, if you don’t do it Coach K’s way, you’re not doing it, period.
Maryland is tough because of their coach, Gary Williams, who has sculpted a team around Vazquez. Grabbing a share of the regular-season title for the first time since 2002 would be massive for Williams, one of the more underrated coaches in the country.

Betting Prediction: Duke vs Maryland Betting Odds
The Blue Devils have won six in a row over the Terrapins, and they’ve won four of their last six trips to College Park. Duke stomped Maryland 77-56 at home on February 13th, led by 22 points from Scheyer, which aided a terrible shooting night by the Terrapins, who are 14-1 at home. After struggling earlier in the season, the Blue Devils have won four in a row on the road, albeit against the ACC’s worst teams. The Terrapins would love to avenge that earlier loss to Duke, and it all comes down to Vazquez, one of the nation’s most dynamic players, and he won’t let the Terrapins lose in his last game at Comcast Center.
