Georgetown vs Pitt Betting Odds – Big Munroe ends Pitt’s unbeaten run at home
NCAA Basketball Odds: Pick Georgetown |
Online betting players know how tough the Big East is, as three of their teams last year captured No.1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. On Wednesday, Pitt will host Georgetown in what will be a typically physical Big East contest, and the Hoyas’ big man on campus will be the key in a Georgetown upset in one of the toughest places in the country.

The Storyline - Georgetown vs Pitt Betting Odds
The No.12 Hoyas (13-3, 4-2) are coming off a tough loss at Villanova, in which they came up just short after trying to come back from a 15-point halftime deficit. The No.9 Panthers (15-2, 5-0) were supposed to be rebuilding, but instead have gotten off to a great start in Big East play. They held off Louisville for an overtime win in their most recent game, and they’ve won four straight games by 10 points or less.
Offensive Matchups - Georgetown vs Pitt Betting Odds
The Hoyas don’t score much, but they’re efficient as they’re eighth in the country in field-goal percentage. The inside-out combo of Austin Freeman and Greg Monroe lead Georgetown’s offense, but the Hoyas need to move the ball around better, coming in 73rd in assists.
The Panthers are 220th in points scored and 118th in field-goal percentage, and outside of Ashton Gibbs and Brad Wanamaker, there isn’t much. Jermaine Dixon and Gilbert Brown are coming on after missing the first part of the season, and if these two can get it going, it’ll be a much-needed spark for the Pitt attack.

Defensive Matchups - Georgetown vs Pitt Betting Odds
The Hoyas are physical without giving up fouls, where they are 14th in the country. Monroe is a force on the block, racking up 10.1 boards and 1.8 blocks, while Julian Vaughn adds a couple blocks per game, as well. However, the Georgetown perimeter defense will need to step up against Wanamaker and Gibbs.
Because Pitt doesn’t score much, they have to defend well, and they’re eighth in the country in scoring defense and eighth in three-point defense. The Panthers get their interior defense from Gary McGhee, while the perimeter defenders are solid, if unspectacular.

Coaching Matchup - Georgetown vs Pitt Betting Odds
John Thompson III is looking to get his Hoyas back to the NCAA Tournament after a disappointing campaign last year, but he’s also done a very good job in handling Monroe, who was highly touted before he got to Georgetown.
Sportsbook players didn’t give Pitt a chance as they lost so much talent from last year’s team, but Jamie Dixon has the Panthers playing disciplined and within their limits. No one would have bet on a 5-0 start in the Big East for Pitt.

Betting Prediction - Georgetown vs Pitt Betting Odds
Pitt should be the favorites at home in “The Pete”, where they’ve won 31 in a row and haven’t lost since February 2008. The last time Georgetown won at Pitt was 2005, and to win this game, they’ll need to go at Monroe in the post at every opportunity. Monroe is coming off a huge 29-point, 16-board performance against Villanova, and when he wants to, there isn’t a big man in the Big East that can hang with him. Monroe’s post play will be the difference as Georgetown stages an upset.
