The Gophers couldn’t overcome Purdue on the road to close out January, and it won’t get any easier in the coming days as Minnesota hosts both Ohio State and Illinois. Trevore Mbakwe has been one of the most dominant forces in the Big Ten so far, but can he get enough support to end the Buckeyes’ run?
College Basketball Betting Preview: Ohio State
Jared Sullinger and company have taken the nation by storm as the only undefeated team remaining, but will need to overcome a couple of tough road tests this week to keep their run alive. Sullinger has averaged 18 points and 9.9 rebounds this season, but it has been about more than just the freshman forward for Ohio State. The Buckeyes are shooting 50-percent from the field as a team, the third best mark in the country, and have done a wonderful job of spreading the rock around with 17.1 assists per game. Junior guard William Buford has shot over 43-percent from beyond the arc and is second on the sports betting bonus team in scoring to Sullinger.
College Basketball Betting Preview: Minnesota
It’s been an inconsistent season for Minnesota so far, but it has been predictable and from what the Golden Gophers have shown it certainly doesn’t look good. Mbakwe and company have had little trouble with unranked opponents so far, but are 1-4 against the ranked teams in the Big Ten, with their only win coming against Purdue in the middle of January. Mbakwe has led the team in rebounding with an average of 10.6, and is second to senior guard Blake Hoffarber in scoring, but has not seen his teammates step up and take on bigger roles against tougher opponents. The issue will be pressed with games against Ohio State and Illinois, that are the final two ranked opponents on the Golden Gophers’ schedule.
College Basketball Betting: Outlook & Pick
The Buckeyes have been hitting on all cylinders so far this season, and a close win over Northwestern may have been the wake-up call that the team needed to realize just how competitive this game is. Ohio State has established itself as the best in the Big Ten, and even perhaps the entire country, but it will come down to focus and determination to close out the remainder of their schedule on a high note. Minnesota has struggled against the best teams from the conference this season, and that will continue this Super Bowl Betting Sunday.
