The Storyline: Purdue vs Michigan State Betting Odds
It’s been a tough week or so for Sparty as a brief two-game road trip resulted in two losses. The Spartans showed some ominous signs on the road when they had back-to-back one-point wins in Michigan and in Minnesota, and then it got worse as the Wisconsin Badgers blew them out and then Illinois took a win. The Spartans are still a perfect 13-0 at home and will look to keep it that way against the Boilermakers.
Meanwhile, Purdue has put a three-game losing streak behind them. Since a tough spell in early January, the Boilermakers have ripped off five straight wins and rolling right now. Purdue has played just six road games this year, though, which could make winning in Michigan State a difficult task – especially since they haven’t won there since 1998.
Offensive Matchups: Purdue vs Michigan State Betting Odds
The Boilermakers have a very good offense but road games they haven’t been the same. They are just 4-2 on the road compared to 11-1 at home and offense has been one of the factors. Forward Robbie Hummel is averaging 16 points and eight rebounds during the team’s five-game winning streak. Along with E’Twaun Moore and JaJuan Johnson, sportsbook odds makers know that the Boilermakers have one of the best trios in the nation.
The Spartans could be someone limited on Tuesday if Big Ten Player of the Year Kalin Lucas is unable to play. He missed the team’s last contest at Illinois and obviously the team suffered. The Spartans 9-0 start in Big Ten play is the best in school history, so this is a team and not just one player. But it’s no coincidence that when Lucas sprained his ankle against Wisconsin and then didn’t play against Illinois, that the Spartans suffered their first two Big Ten losses.

Defensive Matchups: Purdue vs Michigan State Betting Odds
Part of the reason why the Boilermakers have won five straight is because their defense has tightened up. The Boilermakers have held three of their opponents in the five-game winning streak to 59 points or less, which is fairly good. Rebounding will be the key as the Boilermakers have been outrebounded in Big Ten play and that has been their downfall in losses.
Perimeter defense is still an issue for Michigan State. In the last two games, Wisconsin and Illinois have cut through their defense without problems, both shooting over 50% for the game. Purdue’s E’Twaun Moore could be a problem but this defense should be far better at home.

Injuries: Purdue vs Michigan State Betting Odds
Sports betting fans know that the injury to Lucas could be a key. Head coach Tom Izzo has indicated that Lucas will try to play on Tuesday, which should give his team a boost. Obviously, Lucas isn’t going to be 100%.

Betting Prediction: Purdue vs Michigan State Betting Odds
Michigan State has a couple of key advantages in this contest, which should propel them to a big home win. First off, they are at home where they have dominated Purdue for the last decade and secondly, they are the best rebounding team in the Big Ten while the Boilermakers struggle in that facet of the game. Those will contribute to a big home win for Sparty.
