Much of the online betting community's attention at the Beijing Summer Games has been focused on the USA Men's Basketball team. The Americans entered the Olympics with high expectations despite not having won gold in eight years. So, to this point, what's the verdict?

So far, so good. Team USA quickly earned two victories, handily defeating China and Angola. There were some questions marks, sure, but for the most part the Americans looked dominant when necessary. That doesn't mean anyone who got in on Team USA basketball odds should be feeling comfortable just yet. The real action is about to begin.

First comes Thursday's battle with Greece (8:00 a.m. ET). The game will a true grudge match after the underdog Greeks stunned the Americans?and the online betting community?two years ago in the semis at the world championships. They'll pose the first big test for team USA and will add some true spice to Olympics betting.

It only gets harder from there, as Spain awaits on the horizon. Team USA will battle a very talented Spanish team on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. ET. One advantage leaning the Americans' way? The Spaniards are dealing with serious controversy after a team photo was released of the squad making gestures derogatory to the Chinese.

That shouldn't affect Olympics betting or Team USA basketball odds, however, as Spain is still considered one of the best teams in the tournament. It would be easy for the U.S. to let its guard down, but it's a safe bet the Spanish bring their “A” game.

The next few days will be an excellent gage for Team USA and sports betters alike. Did the Americans get lucky and face a few cream puff teams early in the schedule? Or, against fearsome foes like Greece and Spain, can the “Redeem Team” live up to its moniker?
