Cotto Foreman Betting – An Underdog At Yankee Stadium
Normally, if we’re talking about a mega event at Yankee Stadium in early June, it’s because the Boston Red Sox are in town but this year, we’re in for something special. Miguel Cotto will fight Yuri Foreman at Yankee Stadium in what should be quite the spectacle. The Cotto Foreman betting odds list Cotto as a reasonable favorite as he tries to bounce back from his loss to Manny Pacquiao.
- Cotto Foreman Betting Odds: Cotto -250
- Where: Yankee Stadium – New York, NY
- When: Saturday, June 5th, 2010

The Storyline:
Cotto is back after his beat down at the hands of Manny Pacquiao and we’ll see what kind of mettle he has as he steps up in front of a raucous crowd. The good news is he’s used to fighting in front of New Yorkers, usually on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade – but this year it is a week earlier. He’s now lost twice in his last four matches and his win over Joshua Clottey was very close. He needs an emphatic one if he expects boxing betting fans to have faith in him going forward.
Yuri Foreman is the light middleweight champ right now and he’s undefeated. He’s 28-0 with eight knockouts, so that shows that he’s a very skilled fighter. He’s a relative unknown outside of the New York area but this could be his coming out party. He’s a sprite 29-years-old and this could vault him significantly if he wins.
Why Will Cotto Win?
Sports betting fans know this is a big stage for a fight – especially in front of potentially 50,000 people at Yankee Stadium – and Cotto is used to it.
Experience could be a key as he has been in a few bigger fights than Foreman. Foreman has had fights in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, but nothing with a crowd of this magnitude coming to see him for the main event.
As far as talent goes, it’s hard to gauge Cotto right now. We thought he could be a potential champion but Pacquiao destroys those thoughts along with Cotto’s face. He has to be shaken a bit after losses to Pacquiao and Margarito in his last four fights and he could very well be ripe for the picking.
If Cotto flashes the heart we once knew, he could use his two sour losses as motivation.
Why Will Foreman Win?
The flip side is that those losses could be evidence of a decline for Cotto. If that’s the case, then Foreman could be in line for his biggest win yet.
Foreman is going to take a long, hard look at the film from the Pacquiao-Cotto fight and he’ll even take a look at what Margarito did to Cotto. Foreman may not be the brand name of either of those fighters – not yet – but he is more than capable of executing the same game plan.
Cotto may be used to the crowd, but Foreman will be relaxed for this fight. He knows that Cotto will be desperate for a win and desperation doesn’t always turn out well. Foreman should be able to better execute his game plan than Cotto.
Who Will Win?
How can you not love Foreman as an underdog in this situation? He’s actually the better fighter but since he’s not a brand name like Cotto and since he’s not known by casual online betting fans, more people are betting against him expecting a Cotto bounce-back.
The reality is that Cotto has run his course. He tried to be elite and he took a beating. He may be a good fighter but he’s never going to be great as some people once thought he could be.
Foreman is on the come up and this is the perfect fight for him. Cotto has nothing to gain by beating the lesser-known Foreman but Foreman has a lot to gain by beating Cotto. Maybe that’s what promoter Bob Arum is hoping for.
